Universal Life Church Ministries Announces that Clark County, NV has Settled the Lawsuit Filed Against the County by the Church
The Universal Life Church Ministries announced that Clark County, Nevada elected to settle the lawsuit filed against it by the Church. The Church alleged that Clark County officials prohibited its ministers from solemnizing marriages in the area.
LAS VEGAS, Feb. 18, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Universal Life Church Ministries alerted its ministers that the Office of the District Attorney for Clark County, Nevada had elected to settle a lawsuit filed against the county by the Church. That case, No. 2:18-cv-02099-RFB-BNW entitled Universal Life Church Monastery v. Clark County, et al., was before the United States District Court of Nevada.
In its lawsuit, the Universal Life Church alleged that officials from the Clark County Clerk's office put in place a series of barriers that prevented its ministers from solemnizing legal marriage ceremonies while ministers of other churches were allowed to continue performing these ceremonies.
In a statement celebrating the settlement, the Universal Life Church indicated that its ministers could now freely practice their faith and perform legal marriage ceremonies in Clark County, NV. They also indicated that a financial reward paid to the Church by Clark County in the settlement would be utilized to help cover the legal costs incurred by the Church in this action.
The Office of the District Attorney for Clark County, NV issued its own statement acknowledging the settlement and echoing that Universal Life Church ministers could once again feel comfortable solemnizing legal marriages in Clark County. Clark County contains Las Vegas, Nevada, which has been informally nicknamed the "Wedding Capital of the World". Thousands of weddings take place in Las Vegas each year, a large portion of which are officiated by ministers of the Universal Life Church Ministries.
