SAN DIEGO, Feb. 20, 2025 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Sandra Gonzalez, a San Diego-based U.S. Marine Corps veteran, executive coach, and motivational speaker, is passionate about supporting others with their goals. Her current role is to empower women to rise to top leadership positions in male-dominated industries.
In her new book, "Sexy Confidence™: A U.S. Marine's Blueprint for Women to Command their Seat at the Table to become Bold, Beautiful, & Bulletproof," Gonzalez provides lessons to help women achieve these leadership positions. She will share her insights, tips and strategies during her virtual book launch at 4 p.m. PST/6 p.m. CST Wednesday, Feb. 26. This free virtual event allows attendees to hear directly from Gonzalez and ask questions.
The book's title honors Gonzalez's late father who displayed this type of confidence and assertiveness while growing up with her family in Los Angeles. This mindset also served her well in her 20 years of service in the Marine Corps.
"Sexy confidence is a soft skill," she said. "It's specifically a high-performance state of mind. It's an attitude that enables leaders to master themselves so they can stay calm and composed during stressful challenges and situations. This is one of the many things I experienced in the military. The men and women who stood out the most maintained a calm and composed manner. They developed not only emotional intelligence but also other skill sets that enabled them to embody 'Sexy Confidence.' It's a state of mind that allows women leaders to stay calm and composed as they navigate difficult challenges in life and business."
Gonzalez's work presents eight specific chapters poised to encourage readers to ask themselves what life is teaching them at the moment. She discusses incorporating self-care practices that concentrate on energy, focus and high performance; building strong communication skills to create trust and credibility to positively influence others and stepping into uncertainty with certainty to fortify confidence.
"One of the lessons that has resonated with me is establishing that strong foundation which is an example that my father gave us," she said. "He told us to never forget who you are and what you stand for. Once we have that strong foundation, it makes it easier to make decisions and to discern things in life."
Throughout the book, Gonzalez shares personal life moments that shaped her response and resilience from leaning into her strong faith in God thanks to her mother to experiencing an emotional divorce and the devastating loss of her beloved father. She also reflected on her time working with General James Mattis who served as the United States Secretary of Defense from 2017 to 2019.
"General Mattis was the ideal example of what servant leadership is," she said. "I also picked up leadership in the Marine Corps. And servant leadership means being a steward of others. Leadership is not a position but a choice we make every day to step into the best version of ourselves."
As a girl, Gonzalez admired superheroes both in her life and in fiction. Growing up in the mid-1970s, she and many other girls watched "Wonder Woman." Portrayed by actress Lynda Carter, Wonder Woman was a powerful Amazonian warrior who fought for justice in both historical and modern settings.
To Gonzalez, Wonder Woman blended in the masculine strength and feminine grace which demonstrated a powerful presence no matter how the situation unfolded. Embracing one's strengths is part of the leadership strategy Gonzalez espouses in her book.
"Part of the message that I'm sharing is to be unapologetically yourself and authentic," she said. "That's one of the most beautiful lessons that I have learned in my life. Serving in the Marines—a tough male-dominate organization— I learned that I didn't have to get a tattoo, smoke a cigarette or act tough be accepted. I earned their respect by being myself, honoring my values and honoring myself as a woman first and foremost because these are valuable principles that my parents instilled in me."
