USA Premier Volleyball League Crowns New Champions at Fourth Annual PVL Championships in Detroit, Michigan

There was a $40,000 prize purse that was split between the winning men’s and women’s teams. The first place teams took home $10,000 each, second place $6,500 each and third place $3,500 each. This event took place over the course of four days at the COBO Center in Detroit, MI. The feature courts provided a live streaming option for fans that were not able to make the trip.
The first PVL championships took place in 2012 in Salt Lake City, UT with only 12 women’s teams competing. In 2015, the PVL has grown to 29 teams, including both men and women. To be eligible to play in the PVL, athletes must have exhausted their collegiate eligibility and must be current members of their respective USA Volleyball region.
Steve Bishop, President of the PVL, commented on the winning teams and overall growth of the PVL. “Congratulations to the top finishing teams this year in Detroit: Hoosier Team Pineapple (men) and Team North Texas (women),” said Bishop. “The level of talent in the PVL continues to improve each year as more and more collegiate All-Americans are being added to the team rosters.”
Bishop also commented on the social activities and the support of other organizations surrounding the tournament. “In addition to the great on-court action, this year we continued the PVL tradition of hosting well attended after parties each night to celebrate the daily competitions and renew longstanding friendships,” Bishop said. “I would like to extend a sincere thank you to USA Volleyball for their tremendous support of our young league by assisting with court space, officials, lodging, and prize money along with recognizing several of our longstanding business partners: Data Project, David Jester Photography, PVL Announcer Dave Shaw, and ROX Volleyball,” said Bishop. “We look forward to hosting the US Open in Orlando next year and celebrating the 5th anniversary of the PVL.”
The mission of the PVL is to create a successful and sustainable indoor professional volleyball league for elite-level post-collegiate male and female athletes in the United States.
