USAA Again Named Top Military-Friendly Employer®
San Antonio, TEXAS (PRWEB) November 11, 2013 -- USAA, a leading financial services provider for military members and their families, is the nation’s top Military Friendly Employer®, according to Victory Media publisher of G.I. Jobs and Military Spouse. This is the second consecutive year USAA has claimed the No. 1 spot. USAA has consistently remained in the top 10 of the list since the award’s inception in 2003.
“The 2014 Military Friendly Employers® represent the pre-eminent tier of companies with strong military recruitment programs and meaningful job opportunities for transitioning service members and spouses seeking civilian employment,” said Sean Collins, vice president for Victory Media and a nine-year Navy veteran. “Our Military Friendly Employers® constitute the group of companies actually moving the needle and hiring from the military community.”
The G.I. Jobs Top 100 list is compiled from a survey of 5,000 companies with annual revenues of more than $500 million. Criteria for selection include the strength of the company’s military recruiting efforts, percentage of new hires with prior military service, retention programs, and company policies on National Guard and Reserve service.
“We’re honored to be recognized for the second year in a row for advancing one of our organization’s top priorities – getting more veterans hired,” said USAA President and CEO Joe Robles, himself a retired Army major general. “Veterans make outstanding employees. They’re loyal, mission-oriented, dedicated and natural leaders, precisely the kind of employees companies should want. In my opinion, employers that are not actively seeking to hire veterans are missing out.”
USAA has made it a priority to hire veterans. Since 2005, USAA has hired more than 7,800 veterans and military spouses. Earlier this year, USAA announced it had increased its internal hiring goal from 25 to 30 percent of all new hires be veterans or military spouses, understanding that military experience is a preferred qualification for providing best-in-class service to USAA members and the military community.
“Beyond setting a more aggressive target, we’ve also adapted our training programs to make sure veterans stay successful once they get here,” said Robles. “We bring veterans in to preview the workspace, arrange for coaching by other veterans, create clear development paths and encourage them to connect with others in our internal veteran community.”
USAA has teamed up with the White House’s Joining Forces program and veteran-hiring organizations such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Hiring Our Heroes and Syracuse University’s Institute for Veterans and Military Families. Through these alliances, USAA is striving to educate others on the exceptional skills veterans offer, help establish veteran-hiring best practices and strengthen mentorship programs for transitioning service members.
In addition to the latest G.I. Jobs ranking, USAA has been named by Military Spouse magazine as one of the top 10 companies on its Military Spouse Friendly Employers® list. USAA has routinely ranked at the top of this list, having secured the No. 1 spot five out of the past seven years. USAA ranked No. 1 for 2014.
