Registration is open for more than 20 sports across 100+ sessions—including newly-added rowing, football, diving, and women's soccer—featuring elite UC Berkeley coaches and facilities.
BERKELEY, Calif., May 11, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Building off its highly successful partnership with US Sports Camps, the largest provider of sports camps in the nation, Cal Sports Camps has expanded this year's UC Berkeley camp lineup to include diving, rowing, football, and women's soccer. This brings the number of sports offerings to more than 20, and the total number of week-long sessions to over 100. The frequently sold-out summer camp experience combines Cal's training facilities and expert coaching in a fun environment where boys and girls from elementary through high school can make new friends and create lasting memories.
"Cal Sports Camps have a longstanding tradition of excellence, with offerings in baseball, basketball, diving, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, rugby, men's soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, and volleyball," explains US Sports Camps Senior Vice President Paul Merrion. "This year, we're pleased to add diving, rowing, football, and women's soccer to our decades-long relationship, offering young athletes the opportunity to deepen their love of these popular sports."
The Cal rowing coaching staff expands elite-level training to young men and women ages 13-18. High school athletes get a glimpse of the college experience, in addition to personalized stroke pattern analysis, strength training, and conditioning alongside talented rowers. The program is led by former National Lightweight Coach of the Year and two-time Pac-12 Coach of the Year Al Acosta, and Brandon Shald, assistant coach during an undefeated season. Training takes place at the T. Gary Rogers Rowing Center in Oakland, which has produced more top medalists than any other facility in the world, including 27 Olympic golds and nine World Champion golds.
Divers ages 8-18 receive instruction at the elite Legends Aquatic Center, which features a 52-meter training pool, 10-meter diving tower, locker rooms and a team room. Pei Lin is a three-time NCAA runner-up and Chinese national champion and will serve as camp director.
The California Golden Bears football program, holder of five NCAA titles and 14 conference championships, has produced nearly two dozen current NFL players. "The new football camps at UC Berkeley are exciting and unique," explains Jacob Kingdon, US Sports Camps' football director. "They're led by Cal coaches as well as collegiate and professional-level specialists. Plus, the opportunity to play on 100,000 square feet of turf in the beautiful, 53,000-seat California Memorial Stadium is just incredible."
The women's soccer camp is offered to girls ages 6-13 at Cal's Witter Field located above Memorial Stadium. Cal Women's Head Coach Neil McGuire, Associate Head Coach Cori Callahan, and Assistant Coaches Alec Sundly and Rachel Mercik provide instruction, along with current and former Cal Women's Soccer stars.
