BallHawk launches on Kickstarter today. It turns an iPhone into a sports camera that follows the game on its own, starting at $199 for the first 500 backers.
HIGHLAND, Utah, Oct. 27, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- In 2017, Brian Oaks went into cardiac arrest during a competitive basketball game. CPR and multiple defibrillator shocks saved his life. The recovery included nearly two years of severe short-term memory loss. It cost him a successful business and forced him to start over.
After nearly dying, Oaks says capturing his family's memories became one of the most important things in his life.
"You never know how much time you have left, or when your child will play their last game," Oaks said. "For our family, those recordings meant everything."
Filming also made him a better coach. His teams won three straight national championships, with every game streamed live for friends and fans.
Along the way, he kept seeing the same thing in the stands: parents watching games through their phone screens, trying to record and cheer at the same time. As a former live sports production operator, he knew good game video normally takes someone running the camera.
Today his company, Apollo Streams, launched BallHawk on Kickstarter.
"Parents shouldn't have to choose between cheering for their kids and capturing the moments they'll want to remember," Oaks said. "That's the problem we've spent years working to solve."
How it works
A parent sets an iPhone in the BallHawk gimbal, puts it on a tripod, and starts the game in the BallHawk app. BallHawk AI tracking follows the action. Real optical zoom keeps players close enough to recognize. A handheld Game Controller lets the parent reframe the shot or save a highlight with one press, without picking up a phone.
Kickstarter BallHawks will ship with game tracking for baseball, basketball, football and soccer, plus individual player tracking. BallHawk works with YouTube, Facebook, RTMP and GameChanger, and fans and families watch free.
Pricing and availability
BallHawk Starter includes the BallHawk gimbal, Game Controller, BallHawk Weather Shield and Rain Bag. The first 500 are $199. The Game Day Kit adds a carry backpack, 9-foot carbon-fiber tripod, iPad mount, tripod arm and ground stakes, starting at $499. Estimated delivery is February 2027.
BallHawk Pro production software comes with Kickstarter BallHawks at no additional charge. A free BallHawk account is required. BallHawk works with iPhone 12 or newer.
More than 10,000 people signed up to hear about BallHawk before launch day.
