Valley Presbyterian Hospital Opens Hyberbaric Oxygen Program
VAN NUYS, Calif. (PRWEB) July 08, 2015 -- Valley Presbyterian Hospital is pleased to announce it has partnered with Healogics, Inc., the nation’s largest provider of wound care and related disease management, to launch a hyperbaric oxygen program for the treatment of chronic wounds.
“The Wound & Hyperbaric Center will provide Valley Presbyterian Hospital patients with a sophisticated treatment to help heal their chronic wounds,” said Gayathri S. Jith, Senior Vice President of Strategy & Ambulatory Services. “This multidisciplinary program is an extension of the hospital’s commitment to offer excellent, comprehensive community health care services.”
The new Wound & Hyperbaric Center at Valley Presbyterian Hospital opens this month at the medical office building at 6850 Sepulveda Blvd, Suite 200, located adjacent to the hospital. The center will be open Monday-Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM. Amputation Prevention Center Director, Theresa Solis-Bito, BSN, will oversee the hyperbaric oxygen program.
Hyperbaric therapy will complement the full suite of wound care services provided by the Amputation Prevention Center physicians and staff. The Wound & Hyperbaric Center will provide treatment and access to those patients suffering from threatened skin grafts, chronic osteomyelitis, late effects of radiation, and severe diabetic foot ulcers.
An aging population and rising rates of diseases and conditions such as diabetes, obesity and the late effects of radiation therapy is fueling increased incidence of wounds that do not heal for an extended period of time. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy uses a special chamber to allow a person to breathe 100% oxygen. The air inside the chambers is typically greater than the normal atmospheric pressure allowing for blood to carry larger amounts of oxygen to organs and tissues. This process allows infected wounds to heal more readily.
By creating the Wound & Hyperbaric Center, Valley Presbyterian Hospital will join the Healogics network of care which includes academic medical centers, hospitals and thousands of professionals. Healogics employs a rigorous scientific approach to explore, test, find and develop the clinically proven methods and technologies which reintroduce the body's ability to heal.
Liva Yates Gritton, MD, will serve as the Medical Director of the Wound & Hyperbaric Center. Dr. Yates Gritton is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, and is specially trained in hyperbaric oxygen therapy. She graduated from the University of California, San Diego, and completed an internship at The Cambridge Hospital at Harvard Medical School, and her residency at the University of California, Irvine.
