Vancouver Bike Seat Designer Wants to Get Families Adventuring Outside Together
Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) November 07, 2013 -- Vancouver-based Ride More Innovations Ltd (http://www.mac-ride.com) wants to get families outside, adventuring, and having fun with their kids. They have designed and developed a new bike seat for children called Mac Ride, which mounts onto an adult bike between the handlebars and the rider. The sleek, no-fuss design is unique in itself, but Mac Ride is also the only bike seat on the market designed for mountain bikes and built for riding with your kids on trails. Today, the company launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the initial production run.
“As a mountain bike and general outdoor enthusiast, I wanted to share my love of off-road adventure with my kids,” said Ride More’s CEO Glen Dobson. “We do a lot of camping, skiing and hiking, but when it came to my true passion, mountain biking, I found the opportunities to share with my kids were lacking. There are several bike seats on the market, but I wanted one that was suitable for the trails. Since I couldn’t find what I was looking for, the solution was to build one.”
Mac Ride was designed by Dobson, an engineer who has designed a variety of products including gas-sensing quantum cascade lasers, industrial laundry machines and leak-sealing clamps. Mac Ride is constructed of aircraft grade aluminum and steel with an unobtrusive moulded plastic saddle and strong stirrups. It can carry children up to 60 lbs (the closest competitor carries a maximum of 45 lbs).
Importantly, Mac Ride is quick and easy to install, and requires no bulky mounting brackets; all that’s required is a specially designed 10 mm spacer which replaces an existing headset spacer. This task can be performed by most riders, but can also be quickly done in a bike shop. Once the spacer is mounted, it remains essentially undetectable on the bike, so riders can enjoy riding their mountain bikes as usual when the seat is not attached. Only 60 seconds are required to take the seat on or off a bike once the spacer is installed.
Mac Ride’s Kickstarter campaign launched today, with a target of $52,000, and will run until 8:00 pm PST, December 6, 2013. Every individual Mac Ride part requires a specially produced mould which needs to be tooled to precise specifications. This is where the majority of the funding will go, with remaining funds helping to offset costs to get the first Mac Rides produced and into the hands of backers. Once the Kickstarter production run is complete, Mac Rides will become available online and in select retail locations.
