Multi-band, multi-standard radio access node addresses power, cost and maintenance challenges that have made it difficult for network operators to serve rural markets
LEXINGTON, Mass. and NEW DELHI, India, Nov. 7, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Vanu, Inc., a provider of equipment, tools and services that enable mobile network operators to profit by serving off-grid communities, today announced the immediate availability of Anywave™ 4.0, its new dual mode GSM/LTE base station. The highly innovative platform was designed and manufactured to overcome the unique challenges and requirements of rural and off-grid markets, such as lack of reliable power, the high cost of constructing towers, challenging terrain and low population density. Vanu will display Anywave 4.0 at AfricaCom 2022 in Cape Town, South Africa, Booth D80B, from Nov. 8-10, 2022.
Anywave 4.0 is a multiband, multi-standard radio access node system designed around the same principles of software modularity and portability that were hallmarks of Vanu's original Anywave, the first software defined radio product certified by the United States FCC. The modularity of Vanu's software architecture enables the Anywave system to simultaneously support GSM and LTE, leveraging waveform software that has been continuously improved over almost two decades of commercial deployment. The portability of Vanu software allows Anywave 4.0 to use the latest processor technology and novel pre-distortion techniques to deliver a highly efficient small cell.
"Having worked directly and with partners to address rural and off-grid communities for nearly twenty years, Vanu has now developed a dual mode base station in Anywave 4.0 that reflects the many lessons we've learned, and incorporates the direct feedback of our customers," said Andrew Beard, co-founder and CEO, Vanu, Inc. "We know from experience that in order to take advantage of these markets, the ideal system must offer voice and high throughput data services that are both cost- and bandwidth-efficient, and it must be simple to deploy and maintain, even in the most difficult conditions. The lightweight, thermally efficient and interoperable Anywave 4.0 will enable mobile network operators to offer voice connectivity while making it easy to meet the ongoing demand for LTE data services."
Anywave 4.0 Configurations
The base station can be configured as:
- 2TRX GSM/EDGE BTS
- Dual mode GSM/LTE
- 2x2 MIMO LTE eNodeB
In the dual mode GSM/LTE, the base station is designed to support both GSM and LTE standards simultaneously. A dual mode base station is well suited for rural markets as it offers a cost effective and bandwidth efficient way of offering voice services and high throughput data services.
Anywave 4.0 Key Features
- Simultaneously operates as a GSM and LTE base station.
- Vanu eNodeB is 3GPP Rel 9 compliance and is designed to interoperate with any standards compliant EPC.
- GSM waveform can be transmitted within the LTE spectrum or separated.
- GSM RAN is designed to interoperate with standards compliant MSC over the A interface.
- Compact and lightweight: lowers the site costs due to reduced wind and weight load requirements. Faster and cheaper to transport to remote areas and it is easy to install on existing infrastructure.
- Low power consumption. Lowers the site capital costs due to smaller solar, wind, battery and/or generator costs; lower operating costs for sites connected to electrical grid.
- Housed in a thermally efficient IP67 enclosure designed to weather the harshest environmental conditions in the most remote areas.
