According to The Weather Channel, golf ball-sized hail was reported along the Space Coast. Hail piled up like snow in the town of Trenton, near Gainesville. Wind gusts up to 47 mph were recorded at Port Canaveral.
According to Florida Today, wind gusts of up to 50 mph were reported across the Space Coast. The hail storm caused widespread damage in Canaveral Groves, Rockledge, Cocoa, Satellite Beach, and Indialantic. Many areas saw covered roadways with nearly 2 inches of ping pong ball-sized ice chunks.
"It's been a long time since Brevard has seen this," said Matt Volkmer, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Melbourne. "This system was a little stronger than expected." The storm left plenty of damage in its wake including broken windows, damaged pool screens, and shattered windshields.
