More people are booking event spaces, studios, homes and other unique locations online, but the fees charged to venue owners have also climbed. On some platforms, host commissions can run as high as 20%.
VenueMagnet is taking a different approach. Hosts pay no commission on bookings made through the platform.
The idea behind VenueMagnet is pretty simple. Venue owners already have enough expenses. They have rent or mortgages, insurance, maintenance, cleaning, employees and everything else that comes with operating a space. Giving up another chunk of every booking just to get customers can get expensive pretty quickly.
On a $2,500 booking, a 20% commission is $500. On a $5,000 booking, it is $1,000.
That is money the venue owner doesn't get.
VenueMagnet was created to give event spaces, production studios, private properties and other rentable venues another way to reach customers without giving up part of every booking. Hosts can create or claim their listing, set their rates, communicate with renters and manage booking information through the platform.
Instead of taking a percentage from the host, VenueMagnet charges the guest a small flat reservation fee when a booking is made. The host keeps the full rental amount they set.

VenueMagnet currently includes event spaces, filming locations, studios, restaurants, private properties and other unique places available for rent. Renters can search by location and venue type, look through listing details and contact hosts through the site.
For independent venue owners, the goal is to keep things straightforward. There is no recurring listing fee and no host commission taken from a completed booking.
There are already plenty of venue owners who are tired of paying large marketplace fees simply to get bookings. VenueMagnet is betting that some of them would rather have another choice.
The company is continuing to add venues in markets across the United States while building around one basic idea: help venue owners get discovered, and let them keep the money they earn.
