Veteran IP Attorney Charles A. Pannell Jumps to Litigation Boutique AddyHart, Brings Extensive Experience in District Courts, Federal Circuit

Pannell, an experienced litigator and former chemical engineer, joins as a partner in AddyHart's Atlanta office.

AddyHart P.C. is pleased to announce that Charles A. Pannell III, an experienced intellectual property attorney and former chemical engineer, has joined the firm as a partner in its Atlanta office, bringing a wealth of trial and appellate experience in patent, trade secrets, trademarks, false advertising, and copyright matters.

Pannell’s experience includes litigation and trials in courts across the US, including US district courts in Georgia, California, Texas, Delaware, Washington, and New York, the Court of Federal Claims and the International Trade Commission. He has litigated in a wide range of technical disciplines, including avionics, military technologies, geospatial positioning systems (GPS), electrical systems, mobile applications, computer software, the Internet, computer hardware, telecommunications. He also has experience with energy efficiency and "green" technologies, metals refining and processing, textiles, industrial equipment and processes, chemicals, medical devices and medical monitoring, and 3D printing and printer technology. Pannell also advises companies on strategies to protect their patent portfolios and performs due diligence to help clients avoid IP disputes.

Pannell most recently practiced at an AmLaw 100 law firm in Atlanta and before that was with another Atlanta firm. In law school, he clerked for Judge Arthur J. Gajarsa at the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and before that for Judge Stanley F. Birch of the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in Atlanta. Georgia Trend recognized him as one of its "Legal Elite" for Intellectual Property Law in 2017 and 2019 and he has numerous times in past years been named a Georgia "Rising Star" in Intellectual Property Litigation by Super Lawyers magazine. In 2017 he was named an IP Star by Managing Intellectual Property. Pannell is a former recipient of the Linn Inn Alliance Distinguished Service Medal for his outstanding service in helping bring the American Inn of Court experience to the IP community and has been recognized by the Federal Circuit Bar Association for his pro bono activity.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Pannell worked as an engineer at Honeywell International, Inc., in Richmond, Va., where he was involved in research and development for nylon polymer products, and before that worked as an environmental engineer for Delta Air Lines, Inc., in Atlanta. He earned his J.D. magna cum laude at the University of Georgia on 2004 and a B.S. in chemical engineering with high honors from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1999.
