vFairs enabled CNIB to host an accessible virtual iteration of Connecting the Dots; an annual conference for blind and partially sighted people in Canada.

Making our platform accessible to all has been a mission dear to our hearts and we appreciate the opportunity to work with a team as passionate as CNIB to make that happen.

vFairs has collaborated with Canadian National Institute of the Blind (CNIB) to deliver a virtual event platform for their annual conference, Connecting the Dots. The successful two-day virtual conference took place on October 7-8, 2020 in English and on October 17-18, 2020 in French.

Connecting the Dots, hosted by CNIB on vFairs, is Canada's largest educational and professional development experience focused on braille, technology and employment for people who are blind or partially sighted. The two-day conference provides opportunities for attendees to learn about current trends and innovations in the sight loss community via workshops and panel discussions; network with industry experts; experience the latest advancements in braille and assistive technologies; and meet a community of braille transcribers, technology experts, academics, and entrepreneurs from diverse organizations and institutions. It also aims to provide a platform for employers, hiring managers and HR professionals to learn more about creating an accessible and inclusive work environment and meet new potential job candidates.

vFairs worked with CNIB to ensure the virtual conference platform was accessible. Incorporating features such as reverse contrast, enlarged fonts, and chat/voice enablement, was crucial to empower CNIB’s audience to attend a virtual conference independently. The event’s voice description feature was of particular interest to the attendees as it provided a narration of each page, and even descriptions of each individual booth.

The partnership between vFairs and CNIB, and success of the event, was based on more than the availability of accessibility features and could not have been accomplished without the solution-oriented mindset of the vFairs team.

Wayne Henshell, Head of CNIB's Come to Work Program, expressed his delight by saying “the vFairs teams’ willingness to adapt and learn made this partnership a reality”. Even Muhammad Younas the CEO of vFairs spoke about the enlightening experience by saying "making our platform accessible to all has been a mission dear to our hearts and we appreciate the opportunity to work with a team as passionate as CNIB to make that happen".

The collaboration between CNIB and vFairs opened doors for a crucial conversation around accessibility and broke all notions that previously obstructed progress.

CNIB is looking forward to hosting hybrid events, with some in-person capacity mixed with virtual components, to allow for greater reach. The success of this virtual conference has paved the way for future collaborations between vFairs and CNIB, hosting accessible and inclusive virtual events together.
