Victory Addiction Recovery Center Expands Trauma Treatment Services
Victory Addiction Recovery Center, a provider of behavioral health and addiction treatment services in Lafayette, La., owned and operated by Summit BHC, has expanded its trauma treatment services to include Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and the Seeking Safety counseling model.
FRANKLIN, Tenn., Nov. 18, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Victory Addiction Recovery Center, a provider of behavioral health and addiction treatment services in Lafayette, La., owned and operated by Summit BHC, has expanded its trauma treatment services to include Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and the Seeking Safety counseling model.
Two of Victory's clinicians, Peter Barrilleaux, RAC, and Jason Michon, LPC, have completed training in these treatment models. Barrilleaux can now treat patients in the Seeking Safety model, and Michon will provide care when appropriate utilizing cognitive processing therapy (CPT).

CPT is a specific type of cognitive behavioral therapy that has been effective in reducing symptoms of PTSD that have developed after experiencing traumatic events, including child abuse, combat, sexual assault, and natural disasters. This therapy helps clients learn how to challenge and modify unhelpful beliefs related to the trauma. CPT is endorsed by the U.S. Departments of Veterans Affairs and Defense and the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies as a best practice for the treatment of PTSD.
Seeking Safety is listed in SAMHSA's National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices. This counseling model is a present-focused, integrative treatment approach developed specifically for co-occurring PTSD and substance abuse. Seeking Safety helps people attain safety from trauma (PTSD) and/or substance abuse and restore lost ideals. It is an extremely safe model, as it directly addresses both trauma and addiction but without requiring clients to delve into the trauma narrative, thus making it relevant to a very broad range of clients.
Barrilleaux has worked with people battling addiction for over 15 years. He attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette) and completed training with the Louisiana Association of Substance Abuse Counselors and Trainers. Barrilleaux has worked at residential treatment centers as well as long-term care facilities in the state of Louisiana. Peter joined the Victory team in 2016.
Michon has worked in the mental health field for over 15 years. He received his bachelor's degree in psychology from University of Louisiana at Lafayette and his master's degree in mental health counseling from Southern University. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, Michon also served as a team leader for NHS, working with clients who have severe and persistent mental illness and co-occurring disorders. He joined the Victory team in 2018.
