Village of Ossining Receives ArtsWestchester’s President’s Award for Bicentennial Sculpture Exhibit
Ossining, NY (PRWEB) April 17, 2014 -- The Village of Ossining was honored with the President’s Award at ArtsWestchester’s Arts Award 2014. Held at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, the luncheon is ArtsWestchester’s most prestigious awards event of the year. The Village was recognized for “Ossining 3D,” an outdoor exhibition of 25 sculptures mounted to celebrate its bicentennial.
More than 500 business leaders, public officials and arts enthusiasts turned out for ArtsWestchester’s 37th annual Arts Award Luncheon. The Village of Ossining, who was presented the President’s Award by Westchester Deputy County Executive Kevin Plunkett, was one of eight award recipients chosen for their outstanding contributions to the cultural life of Westchester.
“Ossining in 3D” provided direct and free access to works of art that were created through a wide variety of approaches and materials. Thousands weaved through the Village’s historic buildings and downtown waterfront area over the course of the six-month exhibition, which was open to the public May through October last year.
“‘Ossining in 3D’ attracted thousands of visitors, raised Ossining’s visibility, and served as a model for other municipalities to bring art into the landscape,” said ArtsWestchester CEO Janet Langsam. “I wish every community in Westchester would do what Ossining did.”
While “Ossining in 3D” has ended, its impact will be long-lived. The Village secured three works for permanent display from among the sculpture exhibit’s 25 pieces. James Havens’ “Let’s Roll,” David Boyajian’s “Dancing Milkweed III,” and Gary Orlinsky’s “Double Arch” have remained to commemorate the Village of Ossining’s milestone anniversary.
