Wilmington, MA (PRWEB) January 21, 2016 -- Villas of Distinction®, a full-service premier luxury villa provider with an extensive portfolio of thousands and as part of World Travel Holdings, announces this year’s most sought after villa vacation destinations for 2016 based on industry insights — Colorado, Utah, Riviera Maya, Punta Mita and the Dominican Republic.
“Although the Caribbean is always a hot destination for our villa brands, we are experiencing a lot of interest in colder weather ski/snow destinations as well,” said Steve Lassman, vice president of villa product and agency relations for Villas of Distinction. “Riviera Maya and Punta Mita made the list this year due to an increase in travel to Mexico, as evident by a 40 percent booking increase in Riviera Maya.”
Here is a list of Villas of Distinction’s top five hottest destinations for villa vacations in 2016:
1. Colorado
Snow is falling in this region after a slow snow fall last year making it a hot destination for 2016. One of the most popular destinations in Colorado is Steamboat Springs, with villa properties close in proximity to some of the area’s favorite ski slopes. Visitors flock to Steamboat Springs outside of ski season as well to partake in adventurous activities like hiking the National Parks, horseback riding, biking and more.
2. Utah
In addition to making this top-five list, Utah was Fodor’s #1 pick in its Fodor's Go List 2016. Villas of Distinction offers villas located in and around three of the most sought-out ski resorts – Park City, Deer Valley and Canyons – some of those villas are situated right on the ski slopes. Visitors enjoy the easy access to these villas as most are within 40 minutes of Salt Lake City with flights to and from all major cities.
3. Riviera Maya
According to information compiled by the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S.'s southern neighbor was the top international destination for American travelers, with Mexico seeing a record 25.9 million visitors from the U.S. in 2014 – a 24 percent rise from the previous year.
4. Punta Mita
This up and coming, lesser known destination is just a short drive from Puerto Vallarta allowing visitors to experience both destinations without having to stay in the heart of popular Puerto Vallarta. It offers amazing high-end villas that feature private beaches and golf courses, both with breathtaking views.
5. Dominican Republic
Travel to the Caribbean continues to increase and according to Richard Sealy, chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), the Dominican Republic is a top performer when it comes to U.S. travelers. JetBlue expanded flights to the region and Villas of Distinction experienced and significant increase in bookings in 2015 to this sought-after destination.
Last year’s leading villa vacation destinations were:
1. Italy
2. St. Martin
3. Barbados
4. Turks and Caicos
5. Jamaica
