A new report from one of the web's leading all-remote job boards unveils 20 remote work trends to keep on your radar in 2023.
TUCSON, Ariz., Nov. 23, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- A new report from Virtual Vocations uncovers the latest trends in remote work and offers a glimpse into how the digital workspace could grow and change in 2023 and beyond.
Released Monday, the latest report from the all-remote job board cites internal data as well as recent analyses from Buffer, McKinsey & Company, Owl Labs, and Upwork to show the conversation surrounding remote work has changed: Amid talk of the Great Resignation and "quiet quitting," professionals across industries are taking control of when, where, and how they work.
According to Virtual Vocations, the number of workers choosing to work remotely increased 24% in 2022. Interest in office-based work fell at the same rate.
The new report also reveals:
- More than 6 in 10 (62%) of workers feel more productive when working remotely.
- If presented with the opportunity to work remotely, nearly 90% of workers would take their employer up on the offer.
- Asked how they would respond if their employers removed current flexible work options, two-thirds (66%) of workers said they would immediately start looking for a new job; nearly 4 in 10 (39%) said they would quit.
Above all, the data makes clear that workers are prioritizing flexibility, and they aren't afraid to leave their jobs to find it, said Virtual Vocations CEO and co-founder Laura Spawn.
"The 2023 remote work statistics we uncovered depict a U.S. workforce eager to maintain and expand their access to remote jobs in the new year," Spawn said. "Workers are burned out, disengaged, stressed, and willing to leave their jobs to find better, more flexible opportunities."
Spawn said the COVID-19 pandemic gave many professionals the opportunity to "reexamine their personal values and lifestyles" and "more closely examine the benefits of remote work."
Virtual Vocations' new report cites data revealing that up to 97% of professionals said they want to work remotely at least some of the time for the rest of their careers, and nearly 7 in 10 workers (69%) said remote job options would dissuade them from "quiet quitting."
"Even amid growing economic uncertainties, like rising inflation and a possible global recession, employees are still exercising their power to choose work that not only rewards them financially but also fulfills them personally," said Spawn.
Other notable insights from Virtual Vocations' report on trends in remote work include:
- More than 6 in 10 working professionals (64%) reported their ideal location for working remotely is a dedicated home office.
- More than half of workers (52%) would take a pay cut of 5% or more to have flexibility in working location. Nearly a quarter (23%) would take a pay cut of 10% or more.
- While remote work has increased in popularity across nearly all industries, workers in STEM fields like computers and mathematics have greater access to flexible work options; 77% of professionals in these fields can work from home all of the time.
