The 8th annual Virtual Vocations year-end report names the best companies, industries, and states for remote work in 2022.
TUCSON, Ariz., Jan. 25, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- A new report from Virtual Vocations—a leading fully remote job board—outlines the current state of remote work for jobseekers and, for employers, what workers want most from their jobs in 2023.
Virtual Vocations prepared its 2022 Year-End Report and Remote Jobs Statistics using internal company data for the 250,000 remote job openings added to the company's database from January 1— December 31, 2022. The quarter of a million job postings were sourced from 12,000 unique businesses, including members of the company's employer relations group. The Employer Partner Program allows remote-enabled companies to work directly with Virtual Vocations and Erin Feldman, employer and business partnerships specialist, to share fully remote job openings directly to the job board. To date, Virtual Vocations' Employer Partner Program features more than 3,600 vetted company members. Two additions to the program for 2022, among the 42 total new member organizations, include Susan G. Komen and Intuit Inc., according to a statement from Feldman.
Approximately 96% of the total Virtual Vocations job postings for 2022 were 100% remote jobs. This is a significant development for the company. "Following 15 years of vetting and publishing both fully and partially remote jobs, Virtual Vocations became a fully remote job board on February 1, 2022," said Virtual Vocations CEO and Co-founder Laura Spawn. According to Spawn, "Our decision to transition to a 100% virtual database was made based on both jobseeker demand and feedback from our members."
Although the transition to becoming a 100% virtual job board meant an overall decrease in total remote jobs screened and published to the Virtual Vocations database in 2022, Spawn acknowledged the change was worth it to increase remote jobseeker opportunities to work from home without traveling and to provide more targeted career services and remote work resources. After all, 62% of workers want to work remotely all of the time.
"After years of economic, social, and health uncertainties, workers are more driven than ever to seek higher degrees of balance within their professional and personal lives. In 2022, workers rejected hustle culture—replacing it with a move toward the flexibility of fully virtual employment and greater control over how, when, and where they work."
The Virtual Vocations 2022 year-end report illustrates the important role flexibility plays in driving jobseeker career choices. Access to remote jobs became the top priority among jobseekers, who view fully remote jobs as solutions for workplace pain points, like job burnout, diminished motivation, and demanding employers who ask employees to work above and beyond their agreed duties. Spawn elaborated, "Flexible, fully remote employment ensures workers are able to cultivate lives that enrich them on all levels. Employees want to be viewed and respected as whole individuals who are not merely cogs in a corporate wheel."
Fully remote jobs, which are most prevalent in top career fields like information technology, healthcare, and marketing, give workers the freedom and space to not only earn top median industry wages but also engage in meaningful work that reinforces their personal values. The new report provides a comprehensive list of the best career fields for remote work along with top 10 lists for best-of business for remote hiring, including UnitedHealth Group, VocoVision, Inc., and Edward Jones, and best-of states for remote work, like Texas, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
