Conferences and Trade Shows Are Back, but Staying on the Right Side of Regulators Can Be Complicated
GREER, S.C., March 30, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Big events are roaring back this year, but exhibitors and attendees alike have discovered the selling environment isn't quite the same as before the pandemic. An avalanche of data privacy and security regulations has swept the business landscape, changing the way people interact at live events.
Since GDPR was enacted in 2018, regulations governing how businesses use and protect a customer's personally identifiable information (PII) have flourished. According to the International Association of Privacy Professionals, the number of U.S. states that have considered data privacy bills has skyrocketed from just two in 2018 to twenty-nine in 2022.
This regulatory deluge is forcing event goers to rethink how they interact with one another when it comes to exchanging their contact information, most of which is classified as PII under data privacy laws. The standard used to be swapping business cards, but now that practice carries the risk of email disclosure to cybercriminals and the legal requirement to adequately secure cards. Consequently, people are stuck in a bit of a no-man's land when it comes to exchanging contact information while staying within regulatory boundaries.
"When our team attended Dreamforce, we noticed a dramatically higher concern about data privacy and security especially when it came to PII," said Vision-e CEO and Founder, George Turano. "That drove substantial changes to our core solution, SCAN. We added features that enable a more secure, compliant way to exchange contact data while retaining the ease of a traditional business card."
Included in the update are a quick access digital business card with QR code, signature confirmation of marketing consent, and a proprietary purpose selection module that meets GDPR Article 6 requirements.
To bring these new features to the event space, Vision-e added lead retrieval to its growing list of available features. "This was really a customer-driven initiative," stated president of VIsion-e, Mike Lightner. "SCAN has been wildly popular within the Salesforce community for well over a decade. Now users can capture leads at their favorite trade shows knowing they're protected by the same enterprise-level security and privacy they've come to trust in our core app."
Those interested in learning more about how SCAN can support secure, compliant lead retrieval at events should visit the SCAN product information page on Vision-e's website.
