Colorado Secretary of State approves signatures for amendment 84 on the November ballot
DENVER, Aug. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- On Thursday, Aug. 20, the Colorado Secretary of State officially certified the signatures for the Constitutional Right to Hunt and Fish initiative, placing it on the Nov. 3, 2026 ballot.
Pyrost.net, in partnership with the International Order of T. Roosevelt (IOTR), Coloradans for Responsible Wildlife Management (CRWM), and Howl for Wildlife today announced its support for Colorado's Ballot Initiative 84. This measure, which would protect the right of Colorado residents to hunt, fish, and harvest wildlife using traditional methods while preserving science-based wildlife management and state regulatory authority, is part of a broader effort to safeguard Colorado's outdoor heritage and conservation traditions for future generations.
If approved by voters, the initiative would establish constitutional protections for hunting and fishing in Colorado while maintaining safeguards for endangered species, federally protected wildlife, private property rights, and public safety. The measure also preserves the authority of Colorado Parks and Wildlife and state policymakers to regulate wildlife management using science-based principles.
"Coloradans value the state's long-standing hunting and fishing traditions," said Luke Hilgemann, chairman of T. Roosevelt Action. "This measure delivers constitutional clarity and long-term protection for those practices, consistent with science-based wildlife management. We will mobilize nearly 2 million Coloradans who believe in responsible, science-driven conservation so that future generations can continue to enjoy the outdoor heritage that has been a part of Colorado's identity for 150 years."
Supporters of Initiative 84 note that hunters and anglers provide critical funding for wildlife conservation through license fees, excise taxes, and habitat restoration programs. These activities also contribute billions of dollars annually to Colorado's economy and support thousands of jobs across rural and urban communities.
"Colorado's hunting heritage is something worth preserving," said Josiah, owner of Salida Gun Shop and founder of Pyrost.net. "For many families, hunting and fishing are traditions passed down from one generation to the next. Amendment 84 helps ensure that future Coloradans have the same opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, learn conservation ethics, and responsibly participate in wildlife management."
Constitutional protection is important because hunting and fishing have increasingly become the subject of ballot initiatives and policy debates across the country. By placing these rights in the Colorado Constitution, Initiative 84 would provide long-term certainty while allowing professional wildlife managers to continue making informed, science-based decisions regarding wildlife populations and habitat conservation.
If passed, Colorado will become the 25th state to adopt hunting and fishing as a constitutional right.
