The nation's first treatment program exclusively for warriors has changed more than 4,500 lives since its opening in October 2016
BANDERA, Texas, Oct. 26, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Warriors Heart, the nation's only private, accredited treatment program exclusively serving the warrior class (active-duty military, veterans, and first responders), marks a decade of service today alongside its impactful partners. Warriors Heart opened its flagship campus in Bandera, Texas, on October 15, 2016, before expanding to its second location in Milford, Virginia, on September 11, 2023. Over the past 10 years, the Warriors Heart approach has helped more than 4,500 warriors rebuild their lives.
"Warriors Heart was something I've waited for fifteen years to find. I thank God it was there for me and created at a point that was not too late for me and so many others to find their purposeful life and worth again. I have a family and identity with purpose once again."
Scott B., Law Enforcement Officer
"I would've never gone to a conventional rehab... Warriors Heart has helped me come out of my isolation and depression. And I've seen it heal all those around me... Through my treatment I have rediscovered a path and direction for my life."
Matthew P., US Army
Warriors Heart operates under the philosophy of "Warriors Healing Warriors" to combat the chemical dependency and suicide trends across the military and first responder communities. This peer-led model supports clients through every stage of recovery — detox, inpatient residential care, outpatient programs, sober living, and alumni support.
"Ten years ago, we opened our doors with a simple mission of ensuring no warrior has to fight the war at home alone," said Tom Spooner, Co-founder and President of Warriors Heart. "Reaching this milestone and seeing more than 4,500 warriors reclaim their lives on our campuses proves our effectiveness. Our vision to bring one million warriors home is only limited by one thing: capacity. We're addressing that very need as we actively explore options for a new Warriors Heart campus."
Warriors Heart's unique method is backed by independent clinical data from Trac9 Informatics, a third-party assessment tool measuring behavioral health outcomes across hundreds of facilities nationwide. Based on 2025 metrics, Warriors Heart clients enter treatment with more severe symptoms than national benchmarks yet leave significantly healthier, outperforming national averages in 16 of 17 measured outcome areas. Key metrics include:
- 88% program completion rate (16% above national average)
- 65% reduction in depression scores (20% above national average)
- 43% reduction in anxiety scores (20% above national average)
- 59% reduction in stress scores (16% above national average)
- 55% reduction in trauma scores
In a decade of operation, Warriors Heart has built a coalition of partners to help meet this need and remove barriers to healing, including the Avalon Action Alliance, Gary Sinise Foundation, and community allies such as the San Antonio Zoo and Operation Song.
"Our shared mission is removing financial and geographic barriers to care so no warrior is left behind," said Greg Frey, Vice President of Strategic Engagement & Partnership at the Avalon Action Alliance. "Warriors Heart's dedicated peer-to-peer approach and proven clinical outcomes make them an essential partner in bringing true healing to those who have served."
