WCCTA Expands Fiber Overbuild Into Lohrville, Manson, Rockwell City, And Lake City
Webster-Calhoun Cooperative Telephone Association (WCCTA) recently completed extending its Fiber Driven Network into Lohrville, Manson, Rockwell City, and Lake City. These communities are now eligible to sign up for Internet, WiFi, Phone, and Digital TV.
GOWRIE, Iowa, Oct. 27, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Webster-Calhoun Cooperative Telephone Association (WCCTA) has completed fiber overbuilds in the city limits of Lohrville, Manson, Rockwell City and Lake City. Construction began in Lohrville in the fall of 2019, proceeded to Manson, Rockwell City and recently completed in Lake City. With construction now complete, all residents and businesses can sign up for services including Internet, Wifi, Phone, and Digital TV.
WCCTA currently provides a 100% Fiber to the Home (FTTH) network in their incumbent service area covering 715 square miles and 16 communities including Farnhamville, Somers and Knierim already located in Calhoun County.
"Moving further west into Calhoun County, we are expanding our existing Fiber to the Home network and resources," indicated Marcie Boerner, COO for WCCTA. "We choose to continually use buried fiber, even though it is a more expensive option, because it proves to be reliable in providing long-term, undefined broadband capabilities for the last mile connection to our subscribers."
The investment within the city limits of these four (4) new communities is estimated at ten million dollars but the impact is intended to be much more than that. Boerner states, "We plan to be a local presence in these communities. Fiber is an investment in economic development, increases home values, and creates educational opportunities for kids and teachers at home and in school. As much as we would like to go into the true rural areas and run fiber to the rural acreages it is just not feasible at this time. Federal and State broadband programs and grants are extremely important to continue building fiber into these rural areas."
Meet and greet event opportunities are also being planned in Rockwell City and Lake City in November. Anyone interested in learning more about WCCTA can visit the Lake City Public Library on Wednesday, November 10th from 3 – 6 pm and the Rockwell City Public Library on November 15th from 3 – 6 pm. Residents and business are also able to learn more about services and to sign up by calling or going online. "We are committed to customer service. When you call our office, you will always speak to a person."
