Wellumina Wins Second Place at New Venture Competition for Medical Devices
Danvers, MA (PRWEB) June 04, 2015 -- Wellumina, a Massachusetts-based mobile health venture today announced that the company was named 2nd place winner at the 2015 M2D2 New Venture Competition on April 23. The competition drew more than 60 companies with 15 finalists judged by panelists from leading bio-technology, medical device, and life sciences organizations.
Wellumina has developed a diagnostic test platform for use with smartphone imaging technology. The first application of the Wellumina platform is a urinalysis test kit. The 2-minute test can be used at point-of-care (POC) while delivering clinical laboratory-grade accuracy. The product can be used by caregivers to improve home health care for the elderly, pregnant women for prenatal monitoring, and patients for management of chronic conditions such as kidney disease and diabetes.
M2D2 (Massachusetts Medical Device Development Center - http://www.uml.edu/m2d2/ ) is a lifeline for the state's smaller medical device companies offering access to resources for business and product development, clinical studies and incubator space.
“Our core technology was proven through tests with prototypes at Boston Children's Hospital. Winning this competition now brings recognition that our innovation is seen as relevant and capable of delivering impact. M2D2 will give us access to capabilities that fit our need and are really timely to help bring the product to the larger-scale trials,” said Niraj Agarwal, Wellumina's CTO.
