SAN FRANCISCO, April 18, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- WeXL.org, a nonprofit organization empowering underprivileged communities through the creative process, is partnering with The Village Project SF to bring the WeXL Boundless Self-discovery Filmmaking program to 4th and 5th graders in San Francisco from April 18 to May 23, 2023. Making this partnership possible is Oakland-based startup thisspace, which connects community members and local organizations to unique spaces in their area.
"The partnership between WeXL, The Village Project SF, and St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church is the perfect example of thisspace's mission to open doors for the community," said Ian Storrar, CEO and Co-founder of thisspace. "We are proud to have brought them together."
Through the WeXL Boundless Self-discovery Filmmaking program, students will gain hands-on experience learning screenwriting, camera operating, editing, and more, culminating in a final project that showcases their creativity and hard work. Students will also meet industry professionals, learn insights into various creative fields, and explore their passions.
"We are grateful to thisspace for helping us come together as a community after years of social distancing and disconnect," said Arabella DeLucco, CEO and founder of WeXL.org. "Now is the time to collaborate and create joy and meaning through our work, starting with our local youth.
WeXL Boundless aims to help youth explore their creativity and develop essential skills such as ideation, problem-solving, and self-expression. The program leverages the organization's original content and the WeXL Impact Network of arts, media, and technology leaders. Partnerships with local organizations like The Village SF help amplify the impact and expand the reach of this valuable arts and media program.
"It's perfect timing for this partnership with WeXL," said Adrian Williams, founder of The Village Project SF. "Seventeen years ago, I left my corporate job to help the kids, and I've never looked back because there's so much worth and meaning in the work we do as a village."
The Village Project SF is a nonprofit, community-based organization that provides a haven for academic, cultural, and enrichment activities for youth ages 6 to 17 and their families.
For the program's final week, WeXL will host a red-carpet event on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, from 4 to 6 p.m. at The Little Roxie Theater, where students can see their films on the big screen in front of an audience. There will also be a panel discussion with renowned guests and a fundraiser reception from 6 to 8 p.m. at 518 Valencia.
The partnership between thisspace, WeXL.org, and The Village Project SF is a testament to the impact organizations can make when they work together. Arabella DeLucco and Adrian Williams are both Jefferson Award recipients who believe in the power of community.
