Queensland’s Greater Brisbane Region Welcomes Travelers in 2019 with New Hotels, Attractions, Developments and More

With new hotel and resort openings, extensive development projects and unique new attractions and experiences, Brisbane has made a name for itself as one of the most exciting destinations to visit in 2019. In recent years Brisbane has experienced a cultural revival, putting it on the map as a dynamic, ‘must-visit’ area of Queensland. The city has become a hotspot for contemporary art and design, complete with a booming café and culinary culture, vibrant indie music and fashion scene, an array of new art galleries, a slew of new luxury boutique hotel openings and other architecturally interesting projects and developments.

Just an hour drive north of Brisbane is the Sunshine Coast, known for its pristine beaches, freshwater rivers and lakes, subtropical forests and warm sunshine. The destination has a growing culinary scene with a range of new restaurants such as Lola’s Pantry and Kiki Bar, as well as exciting new food festivals, craft breweries, wineries and more. New Hotels

W Hotel – Brisbane – June 2018
The highly-anticipated W Hotel launched June 2018 on Brisbane’s legendary George Street overlooking the city’s iconic river. Bringing bold design and playful luxury to the western end of the central business district, W Brisbane redefines the city’s hospitality. The six-star hotel features 312 guestrooms with custom furnishings and interiors inspired by its Queensland locale and the hotel’s design narrative, A River Dreaming’ with stellar views of the iconic Brisbane River. The hotel also offers three unique restaurants and bars, spa, event space, WET Deck with swimming pool, W Hotels The Store and more.

Sanctuary by Sirromet – Mount Cotton – Summer 2018
For an ideal wine country getaway just 30 minutes outside Brisbane, Queensland’s largest and most awarded winery, Sirromet Winery, recently launched 18 self-contained glamping tents on their 560-acre property at Mount Cotton. Aptly named Sanctuary by Sirromet, the silk-lined luxurious tents enable guests to connect with nature in a tranquil bushland setting while surrounded by local wildlife roaming the grounds. Each tented pavilion includes a king bed with luxury linens, air conditioning, an en suite bathroom and private balcony which appears to “float” above the landscape, offering stunning views over the canopy of paperbark trees, giant scribble gums and the lake. Guests also have direct access to Sirromet Winery where they can enjoy award-winning wines and dine on fresh, locally sourced produce from one of winery’s three restaurants.

Mapleton Springs B&B – Sunshine Coast – Summer 2018
This new offering in the Sunshine Coast hinterland town of Mapleton offers guests expansive views over rolling hills, an infinity pool, a spa and sauna and a delicious cooked breakfast daily. During the cooler months guests can sit by the open fire in the lounge room or enjoy a movie in the cinema room. The owners of the B&B also care for animals, so guests will often find rescue joeys, as well as an abundance of local wildlife around the property.

Emporium Hotel South Bank – Brisbane – September 2018
Emporium Hotel Group’s new five-star Emporium South Bank features a hip design, the latest in-room technology and personalized service. The luxury boutique hotel encompasses 360 rooms including 143 suites and 217 residential apartments, a retail precinct and an abundance of premium food and beverage options including Belle Epoque patisserie, the eclectic chic Piano Bar and South Bank’s only rooftop bar, The Terrace, which overlooks a brand-new 75-foot infinity pool with stunning views over Brisbane.

The Calile Hotel – Brisbane – September 2018
The newest addition to the TFE Hotels Collection portfolio, The Calile Hotel provides the ultimate urban resort experience. A subtropical resort located on Brisbane’s trendy James Street, the hotel combines architectural amenities with climate-centric spaces, fusing warm weather with warmer hospitality. The Calile features 175 generous guest rooms, including nine suites and two premiere suites. Almost every room offers an individual balcony or terrace, and all feature a Chromecast and Bluetooth sound bar, automated blackout blinds, Grown Alchemist amenities and a locally curated minibar. Makepeace Island – Sunshine Coast – November 2018
Makepeace Island, the heart-shaped island and Australian home to Sir Richard Branson, will reopen this November after undergoing a major renovation. The island is ideally situated on Noosa River and offers guests their own private sanctuary on the Sunshine Coast. Visitors can enjoy their private island with up to 21 of their closest friends or family members and spend their time kayaking water-skiing, sailing, snorkelling, swimming in the infinity pool, or relaxing with organized yoga and Pilates classes or in the property’s huge hot tub.

The Ruby Collection – Gold Coast – November 2018
Newly opened, the Ruby Collection is a series of family holiday apartments that are raising family accommodation standards on the Gold Coast. The first of four towers feature 243 apartments and villas with ocean or hinterland views each with a full kitchen, lounge and dining areas, private en suite bathrooms with showers and extras such as USB charging points, Smart TVs, complimentary Wi-Fi and easy access to Ruby’s digital concierge. Families can enjoy a swimming pool, children’s splash zone and waterpark, kids club, daily activities programming, as well as a selection of dining and entertainment options for the adults. All four towers, a $1 billion project set to be completed by 2022, will be connected by a village green space that will be showcase events, public art, world-class entertainment, signature chefs, boutique bars and cafes, and retail stores.

Westin Brisbane – Brisbane – November 2018
This five-star urban retreat is located in the heart of Brisbane’s city center. Offering 286 guestrooms, the Westin Brisbane will also house extensive leisure facilities including a resort-style swimming pool with a swim up bar, a ‘Heavenly Spa’ day spa and full gym facilities. Guests can indulge at two signature restaurants, a lounge bar and a pool bar – complete with Brisbane’s only swim-up bar. Each will complement the health and wellness aspects, offering menus which incorporate fresh, local ingredients in classic styles.

Ovolo Hotels Brisbane – Brisbane – April and November 2018
Luxury hotel brand Ovolo Hotels recently launched their first Brisbane hotel, the Incholm Hotel & Suites in April, and are opening their second location, Ovolo The Valley, in November. The Inchcolm Hotel & Suites is a heritage listed, 50-room property that carries one of the largest room sizes in Brisbane and launching in November, Ovolo The Valley is a boutique hotel of impeccable style and charm located at the heart of the city. Hotel amenities include a rooftop pool, gym and sauna, cocktail bar and patisserie, as well as a conferencing and events center.


Walk Brisbane – Brisbane – (New Tour) – Summer 2018
Whether guests are interested in architecture, art, restaurants, stories, design, history, gardens, coffee or just want to get to know the city better, Walk Brisbane has tours to suit. For nightlife and cocktail enthusiasts, Walk Brisbane’s newest Small Bars of the Valley tour takes guests on a three-hour bar tour of Fortitude Valley's finest establishment. Brisbane By Bicycle – Brisbane – (New Tour) – Summer 2018
Brisbane By Bicycle’s new Eat Street Markets Tour takes travelers for a ride along Brisbane’s riverside bike paths to what was once an old container wharf and is now Eat Street Markets. Here visitors will find international cuisine and boutique beers while enjoying live performances. The bike route is free from cars and hills and after indulging at the markets, guests will enjoy a leisurely boat cruise on the return trip back to the starting point.

Howard Smith Wharves – Brisbane – December 2018
The Howard Smith Wharves revitalization project in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley neighborhood is set to redevelop an underutilized site into a lifestyle, entertainment and events center, positioned on 370,000-square feet of riverfront land under the iconic Story Bridge. The site will introduce a five-star, 164-room boutique Art Series Hotel, alongside urban chic restaurants, cafes, coffee-roasting and a craft brewery.

The Curated Plate – Sunshine Coast – August 2019
This new four-day food festival is set to debut August 8-11, 2019 on the Sunshine Coast and will celebrate the region’s finest produce with the best chefs in the Australian and international dining scene. Exciting culinary events including food trails and farm tours will be hosted throughout the region, with the full program of events revealed in March 2019.
