When Broadway Meets Fashion Week, Cirque du Soleil, and a Rock Concert, You Get The Journey Fashion Festival
In a fierce show production, international designers intertwined with performers showcased their newest collections during New York Fashion Week in The Journey Fashion Festival. Flirting with the boundaries of fashion show production, The Journey took the audience on a visual journey while pushing the envelope through performances and a call to action for gun control.

The Journey Fashion Festival founded and directed by Malena Belafonte, did not just create a show, but focused on giving everyone an incredible experience while reminding us that we all have a duty to keep our children safe from gun violence. "We have all eyes on us during Fashion Week and personally I feel it is my duty to use my platform to do good while still producing a show that is meant to create and further business," says Malena Belafonte, "I want people to walk away from our shows feeling something, awakening something inside, and feel hope in addition to seeing the newest collections from fabulous designers. Forbes featured singer SHELITA debuted her newest single Religion along with Save Me, and The Journey ring master Malena Belafonte, inclusive of a leather whip, paired up with dancer Justin Schaffner known from Memphis and Sway and opened the show in a sexy theatrical number.
Among the featured designers were Eva Prokai whose collection AMNESIA AW19 - Budapest by Night was inspired by her hometown of Budapest. A collection filled with different types of vegan leather and faux fur, and the hit of the season, patent faux leather. Soft layers of thin and thick knitted viscose created harmony and trendy chains took an important role in the Eva Prokai - AMNESIA collection. "There are so many visual pleasures for visitors in Budapest. We evoke winter colors and mood by visualizing the night with its vibrant, mystic lights. The patterns on the fabrics are our own graphic design, which are partly animal prints and partly the view of the city at night," says Eva Prokai.
Shop the runway segments from L'Antonio Resort, who premiered a colorful new collection by Lloyd Crawford and Laura Quiros, followed by Cenia New York who showcased everything a girl wants from streetwear to fabulously handmade couture. Minan Wong showed her classy and exciting sustainable womenswear brand in a Kpop popping runway show, while Henry Picado Men showcased a glorious men collection to the backdrop of an aerialist interacting with the male models including special guest Alex Salem from Douglas Elliman. This was followed by a women's collection from Este and Chlo by Henry Picado who could bask in the glow of being a featured designer on the CBS new hit show "The World's Best". Hip hop sunglass guru to the Stars, Yeroc by Corey Woods put on an incredible show titled "Winter on Jupiter". Alvin Ailey dancer Hanna Richardson, along with social media sensation Super Bitch, in red thigh high boots, flanked models and the show segment's multiple brands all wearing Yeroc sunglasses.
Not all was lost in glamour and dreams, the audience got jolted by Everytown for Gun Safety's powerful PSA featuring National Dance Institute dancers dancing away the fear of gun violence at schools to Sia's new hit song "I'm Still Here" directed and produced by Ezra Hurwitz and Robbie Fairchild. The video was followed by NDI dancers taking over the runway with a dance choreographed by Beyonce's own James Alsop, while the frightening gun violence stats rolled by on the massive screen, impossible to miss. Another conscience raising detail were the VIP giveaways from Twice toothpaste, a company founded by Lenny Kravitz, Julian and Cody Levine with a mission that every purchase helps provide transformational dentistry. http://www.smiletwice.com. The culmination came when over a hundred Journey cast and crew took to the stage, each carrying an orange ballon, as a call to action for gun safety.
Other featured designers at The Journey Fashion Festival at Peter Norton Symphony Space were CHL by Christian Lacroix, Kromagnon, Helen Sanchez Intimates, and more.
