SILVER SPRING, Md. and GAITHERSBURG, Md. (PRWEB) May 21, 2019
White Oak Pediatrics (http://www.whiteoakpediatrics.com) urges parents to protect their children from measles with a safe, proven and effective solution: vaccination.
Between January 1, 2019 and May 3, 2019, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCC) reported 764 cases of measles across 23 states. Worryingly, this number includes a 60 case jump between April 26 and May 3. In comparison, the total cases of measles reported by the CCDC last year were 372. The majority of people affected were not vaccinated.
World Health Organization states that between 2000 and 2017, measles vaccinations resulted in an 80 percent drop in measles-related deaths, and lives saved is estimated to be 21.1 million globally.
Several factors, including anti-vaccination mania and affected travelers entering and exiting the country, have contributed to this unfortunate spike in measles cases in the United States.
Even though anyone at any age can get measles, it is particularly deadly for children under the age of 5. White Oak Pediatrics urges parents to get this safe and effective treatment to protect their children, and also advises adults of all ages, including parents, grandparents, to check their immunization status as a booster may be required.
