White Oak Pediatrics (http://whiteoakpediatrics.com/) has more than 30 years of serving children, youth, and young adults in Maryland. Recently, Julianne Greene, a pediatric nurse practitioner with White Oak, was featured in an ABC7 News segment.

The feature was about preventing back-to-school illnesses in children. Greene, who has been with White Oak for 22 years, noted that early August sees the clinic swamped with sports and back-to-school physicals. However, it’s when school starts in September when the appointments go from preventative, to treating illnesses.

A lot of the cases are preventable, Greene pointed out on the segment. When students are in a crowded environment like school, hand washing and keeping the immune system strong with a good diet, plenty of sleep, and water are imperative. Sleep, she noted, is an often-overlooked component of good health.

Greene posts information for parents on the clinic’s blog, with tips on how to raise healthy students and reminders for important issues such as mandatory vaccinations.
