NEW YORK, Sept. 14, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Maria Isabel Santos, the widow of Pablo Escobar, opens up about her relationship with the notorious drug lord and leader of the Medellin Cartel on the Armchair MBA Podcast. Marrying at just 15, Santos was thrown into a life of violence, drugs and fear at a young age. Following Escobar's death, she sought refuge in Argentina— where she still resides today.
Santos and Armchair MBA host, Tom La Vecchia, discuss what life was like being so intertwined with the workings of the most infamous drug trafficker of all time. Santos answers candid questions in this rare and exclusive interview— offering viewers an insight into a dangerous life that many are entirely oblivious to.
Santos met Escobar at 12 years of age in the Colombian neighborhood of La Paz de Envigado when he was 23 years old. Within the community, Escobar was a leader and served as secretary to the President of Communal Action, which was a group aimed at handling the welfare of the people. Early on, Escobar was admired by many. Quickly after embracing the courtship, Santos' life began to change dramatically.
At home, Escobar was a loving father and husband, but it became clear that his behavior inside the house was a far cry from his actions in the drug world. As money and financial stability grew for Escobar, life became more perilous for both him and his family.
His social action and strife for a better community drew Santos in, but it would eventually be learned that his methods for achieving such stability were paradoxically juxtaposed with the idea of a better life for Colombians. After the assassination of Rodrigo Lara Bonilla, which was ordered by Escobar's operation, everything changed. Santos notes that event as the line between the before and after.
In this one-of-a-kind Q&A, Santos breaks nearly 30 years of silence on topics such as the family's home life and the trials she faced throughout her marriage to Escobar.
