Republic Wireless Bonded Calling Technology Raises the Bar Again for WiFi Calling Quality
Raleigh, North Carolina (PRWEB) April 21, 2016 -- WiFi Calling technology innovator Republic Wireless today launched groundbreaking technology, Bonded Calling, that intelligently senses sub-optimal conditions on the WiFi network and can respond by patching the gaps in a WiFi call with redundancy on the cell data network. These patches result in a higher quality conversation and extend the range of indoor coverage. Bonded Calling is another step forward for Republic’s Adaptive CoverageTM technology platform.
“When it comes to WiFi calling, engineering innovation is one of our hallmarks, and what makes Republic different from other carriers is that we are continually pioneering unique new improvements. WiFi is everywhere, and it is exponentially less expensive to offer service over WiFi versus cellular. A key tenet of Republic’s mission since Day 1 is to put dollars back in the consumer’s pocket, and that’s why increasing the quality of WiFi calls is so important,” said David Morken, chief executive officer and co-founder of Bandwidth and Republic Wireless.
“We’ve long said two networks are better than one – WiFi is a terrific network in optimal conditions as is cellular, but intelligently pair the two networks together and you have the best of both worlds. Our Bonded Calling technology goes a long way toward narrowing the gap and making WiFi calls even higher quality,” Morken said.
“Until recently, we engineered for optimal voice quality on WiFi in an ‘either – or’ scenario – either calls traveled over the WiFi network assuming sufficient quality conditions or calls were automatically and seamlessly handed over to the cellular network. And any calls made on cellular network stayed on the cellular network. Last year we were the first provider to announce seamless Cell to WiFi handover – that is the ability to hand calls made on the traditional, circuit-switched cellular network back to WiFi,” Morken said.
“In parallel, our engineers have been laser focused on creating a solution that can deliver a great experience regardless of WiFi conditions, Bonded Calling. It will enable WiFi calls to simultaneously consume cellular data in millisecond intervals, effectively ‘patching’ holes in the conversation and preventing these holes from being noticed. During customer testing of Bonded Calling, we experienced a 52% increase in WiFi call quality across the board, and a 209% increase in quality at the edge of a WiFi network*, which is a notoriously difficult challenge. The best part is our customers don’t have to do anything – we are already rolling out this new feature of our Adaptive CoverageTM technology to our customers.”
“We’ve been granted 30+ patents mostly around seamless connectivity. I believe we are on the leading edge of creating a customer experience based on an innovative technology that will fundamentally change the wireless industry in the years to come,” Morken added.
