Wilkinson Barker Knauer Relocating to DC's CBD
Washington, DC (PRWEB) November 25, 2014 -- Wilkinson Barker Knauer (WBK), the largest standalone communications and technology law firm in the U.S., is relocating its Washington, DC, office to the 8th floor of 1800 M St. NW’s North Tower. The firm will occupy 33,723 square feet of the recently renovated CBD building on the corner of 18th and M St. NW. Savills Studley, the leading global commercial real estate firm specializing in tenant representation, advised Wilkinson Barker Knauer in the transaction three years in advance of the firm’s current lease expiration at 2300 N Street NW.
“Although we had a few years remaining on our lease, we were advised that relocating without incurring additional liability was a possibility and a way to solve our space deficiencies. Savills Studley led us through an exhaustive process, ending at 1800 M St. NW, where we will be able to enjoy brand new space much earlier than anticipated in a vibrant location that we know well,” said Paul Sinderbrand, Chair of WBK’s Leasing Committee.
Savills Studley Executive Vice President and Co-Regional Manager Gary Stein, Senior Managing Director Ben Plaisted, and Managing Directors Jon Glass and Greg Scheipers represented Wilkinson Barker Knauer in the 12-year agreement. According to Stein, current market conditions created the opportunity for Wilkinson Barker Knauer to evaluate their options early. As a result, the Savills Studley team was able to negotiate a favorable agreement that ensures a seamless transition to the new space in October 2015.
“After a thorough search, 1800 M St. NW stood out for the financial advantages and the amenities the building offered. Wilkinson Barker Knauer’s new space will employ a more efficient and modern design that better reflects the way the firm works. Additionally, they will be able to occupy the space years before their current lease expires without taking a hit to their bottom line,” Stein said.
