Enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year at Willamette Connections Academy (WillCA), the tuition-free online public charter school serving students in grades K-12 from across Oregon, is now open. The virtual school started last fall under a charter with the Scio School District and will see the first seniors graduate this June.

“Willamette Connections Academy started its inaugural year with the motto ‘We Will Grow, We Will Serve, We Will Explore’,” said Principal Chris Long. “Our students and staff have grown in knowledge, learned from each other, and explored the wonderful world of digital learning.”

Willamette Connections Academy is a tuition-free, online K-12 public school that students can attend from home or wherever there is an Internet connection. Dedicated Oregon-certified teachers keep students on track with a curriculum that meets rigorous state education standards while also nurturing a love of learning. The school also provides many opportunities for students to socialize through in-person field trips as well as online clubs and activities.

“In addition to assisting students academically through a personalized learning program, we offer resources to create a well-rounded student,” added Long. “Our common goal with parents is to ensure children are successful in school and in life.”

“This has been an exciting first year for everyone at Willamette Connections Academy,” said Tim Hyre, Willamette Connections Academy School Board President. “I’m so proud of our teachers and staff for getting this brand new school off the ground and helping so many students who were seeking a different choice for their learning needs; I can’t wait to see what happens in year two.”

Families choose Willamette Connections Academy for a variety of reasons. For example, their student may not be thriving academically in a traditional school setting, or they may need a safer learning environment due to bullying concerns. Many Learning Coaches, usually parents, appreciate the virtual school format since it gives them a front-row seat to their child’s education journey. Other parents enjoy the flexible online school schedule because it allows them to spend more time together as a family.
