William L. Carter Foundation’s Community Champion Classic Basketball Game With celebrity basketball coaches – NBA Legend Larry Johnson and Retired NBA Star Chris Taft
Greenburgh, New York (PRWEB) September 17, 2016 -- The William L. Carter Foundation’s Community Champion Classic Basketball game will take place on September 24, 2016 at the Theodore D. Young Community Center. The High School All Star game starts at 7:00 PM and the Men’s All Star game starts at 8:00 PM. The game between the Theodore D. Young Community Center and the Nepperhan Community Center will feature Greenburgh vs Yonkers in a head to head full court battle. With celebrity basketball coaches – NBA Legend Larry Johnson from the New York Knicks and Retired NBA Star Chris Taft from the Golden State Warriors, both teams are in for some tough competition. The proceeds from the game will benefit the William L Carter Community Leader Scholarship Fund.
The youth on both sides have been working hard in anticipation of the games and the celebrity coaches are excited to be a part of the tournament in support of the William L. Carter Foundation. Originally from New York, Chris Taft, who has his own organization centered on inspiring the dreams of youth indicated he was “honored to have the opportunity to participate” and feels that this is a great opportunity for him to support an organization that parallels his views and dedication to inspiring the youth.
Chris’ message is one of encouragement. He overcame obstacles in his life and career and wants to encourage and inspire the youth to follow their dreams and never give up. “I want them to know, I was just like them. I was a kid living in a tough neighborhood. I know that feeling of loving basketball and wanting to do everything I can with the sport but having days when things just aren’t going good or feeling like why do I have to go through this”. Chris said that he was told that he would never be able to walk or play basketball again, but through God’s blessings and healing power in his life he was able to come back and do things that he was told he would never be able to do. “There is no obstacle you can’t overcome”, Chris said. This is the same message that the William L. Carter Foundation teaches. It is the message of William L. Carter himself who overcame obstacles in his life to become a celebrated member of his community.
Chris was very excited to hear about the William L. Carter Inspiration Program starting in October. The program meets once a week with youth to mentor and prepare them for college, jobs, and whatever their future holds. “That just shows me the foundation’s dedication and desire to help out anywhere that is needed. That is awesome” said Chris. The foundation is striving to show constituency and commitment to the community of Greenburgh. After their inauguration in April 2016, the William L. Carter Foundation was hard at work for the community and youth of Greenburgh with a very successful summer. The foundation gave four scholarships to students from the Greenburgh community. They had a very successful Jazz Clinic where young qualified Jazz musicians had the opportunity to practice with Jazz great Kenny Lee and his band and perform on stage with the band at the William L. Carter Jazz Concert series. Now the William L. Carter Foundation is holding their basketball Champion Classic Fundraiser. There are so many more great things to come from the William L. Carter Foundation. What the William L. Carter Foundation is doing is “powerful, and I wish them continued success and blessings” - - Chris Taft.
