Wines of Greece Announces Annual Winemakers Road Show
NEW YORK (PRWEB) April 11, 2018 -- Wines of Greece announces its annual Road Show, with its kick-off events in Canada before heading to the US for stops in Seattle, San Francisco, and New York. The events will highlight Greece's wine culture to media and trade, with a focus on wines with a Protected Designation of Origin. The Roadshow schedule includes: May 1 (Montreal), May 3 (Toronto), May 8 (Seattle), May 10 (San Francisco) and May 15 (New York).
The local trade and press in each city will enjoy a Grand Tasting of wines from regions throughout Greece and will showcase different styles of classic varieties plus wines from up and coming Greek grapes. Each stop will also feature educational workshops exploring the next generation of Greek wines with speakers Konstantinos Lazarakis, MW, well-known Sommelier Michael Madrigale, and Enologist, Sofia Perpera.
According to Eurostat data, Greek wine exports to the US from 2009-2016 increased by 81.6% in value and 28.4% in volume. The average price per liter increased 41.3%. This pattern has continued as Greek wine exports in 2017 increased by 14.8% in value compared to 2016 and 5.5% in volume. These numbers indicate an increasing consumer willingness to spend more on wines from Greece.
“We will have a new generation of Greek winemakers present who are crafting world class wines from our classic indigenous and other relatively unknown varieties, while exploring their potential with new styles of wine, single vineyard bottlings and wines with less intervention,” explains Sofia Perpera, Director of the Greek Wine Bureau for North America. “With the increasing popularity of Greek wine in the U.S., we are always excited to return to New York and San Francisco, and be introduced to the Seattle market for the first time.”
