Winners of Annual Beau Biden Memorial Scholarship Announced

WILMINGTON, Del., May 13, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The I Could Do Great Things Foundation, founded in 2009 by Delaware philanthropists Stuart and Suzanne Grant, announced today the winners of the fourth annual Beau Biden Memorial Scholarship. High school senior Allison Stuebing of Wilmington will receive the gold prize of $10,000, with Alia Marshall of Rehoboth Beach, Benjamin Stewart of Middletown, and Julia Frank of Wilmington each receiving silver prizes of $5,000 for outstanding commitment to their communities.

Established in honor of the late Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden, the Scholarship honors college-bound high school seniors from Delaware who exemplify "the virtues of Beau: qualities of leadership, community, civility, respect, and a strong moral compass."

The honoree selection committee reviewed applications from close to 100 accomplished high school seniors before naming the 2019 honorees.

"This year's winners demonstrate a diverse range of achievements in service, from entrepreneurship to social activism," said Stuart Grant. "We were blown away by what these students have already accomplished, and we are sure they will go on to do truly great things."

About the recipients:

Allison Stuebing, the winner of the $10,000 gold prize, will graduate from Padua Academy with a 4.1 GPA at the end of May. She serves as a Student Council Executive Officer, a Padua Student Ambassador, and a Blue Gold Ambassador, and is a member of the National Honor Society, the Ronald's Rescue Executive Council, and the Blue Gold Executive Board, among other organizations. An accomplished athlete in swimming and volleyball, Allison has also clocked over 500 hours of service throughout her high school career and achieved the highest Girl Scout honor, the Gold Award. She plans to major in marketing with a minor in political communications at the University of Delaware.

Alia Marshall will graduate from Cape Henlopen High School this year. She serves as Vice President of her school's Muscle Movement Foundation chapter, which raises money for children affected by ALS, muscular dystrophy, and other muscle-related diseases, and is the chapter's co-founder. Alia participates in her community through the Leo Club and National Honor Society, and is the Treasurer of her student government. She is an accomplished multi-sport athlete, setting school records in track and field and serving as team captain on her field hockey and lacrosse teams. Alia will attend Northwestern University in the fall.

Ben Stewart serves as Senior Class President at Appoquinimink High School. An accomplished programmer, he developed Blooket, a free, interactive review tool that will be released for public use this year. As a member of the National Honor Society, he participates in mentoring students and public clean-up efforts, among other community-oriented initiatives. He is captain of the tennis team, a member of Business Professionals of America and the Math League, and is a Science Olympiad and a Computer Science Pathway CTE Ambassador. Ben will attend Duke University in the fall.

Julia Frank is President of the Cab Calloway School of the Arts chapter of the National Honor Society. First in her class, she has volunteered through a range of organizations, including Family Promise, JKidz Aleph Champ, Ronald McDonald House, and Jewish Relief Agency. Last year, she completed an internship at the Mitzvah Food Pantry in Philadelphia. Julia is President, VP of Recruitment, and VP of Jewish Programming & Community Service of her BBYO Chapter, and is a CTeen Chapter Leader. She will attend the Wharton School of Business at University of Pennsylvania in the fall.
