WIPP International President Jennifer Bisceglie Named to Participate in the W20
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) September 30, 2015 -- Women Impacting Public Policy International (WIPP International) whose mission is to build powerful collaborative networks among leading women-led organizations, announced today that the U.S. has named Jennifer Bisceglie, President of Women Impacting Public Policy International, as one of nine representatives to the Women-20 (W20), the new engagement group established by the G20 to focus on promoting gender-inclusive economic growth.
Keynote speakers at the W20 Launch included Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Angel Gurría, Secretary-General of The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). In their addresses to the delegates, they reiterated the mandate for the W20 to advance the economic and social participation of women, expand the financial participation and education of women, and reduce the gender gap in economic participation rates in G20 countries by 25 percent by 2025.
Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu spoke about the potential of the W20 to spur global economic growth. In the G20 today, male economic participation is 86%, but only 56% for women. Davutoğlu remarked that estimates indicate for every 1% rise in women’s participation, the global economy will expand by an additional $80 billion and a 10% rise would raise the global GDP by an amount equivalent to Turkey’s annual GDP.
Arancha González, Executive Director of the International Trade Centre, emphasized in her speech that inclusive growth is more than a moral issue, but an economic one as it would be the equivalent of adding a new China or new India to the global economy.
“The W20 has a unique opportunity to advocate for policies around the world that will expand women’s participation in the workforce,” said Jennifer Bisceglie, who is also CEO of Interos Solutions, Inc. “As was pointed out during several keynote addresses, simply increasing the government procurement goals for women-owned businesses could significantly impact economic growth around the world.”
