Wiygul Automotive Clinic Partners with Capital Area Food Bank To Fight Hunger in Washington DC Metro Area

WASHINGTON, Nov. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- In an effort to reduce hunger in the Washington DC Metro Area, Wiygul Automotive Clinic will hold a multi-location food drive from Nov. 1, 2018 through Nov. 15, 2018 to benefit the efforts of the Capital Area Food Bank.

"Food insecurity is a year-round problem, but it's especially challenging for families in the holiday season," said Zack Wiygul, co-owner at Wiygul Automotive Clinic. "We want to be good stewards of the local community that has supported our business by gathering enough food and donations to drive a dent in local hunger."

Capital Area Food Bank, a member of the Feeding America network, serves all of the District of Columbia, suburban Maryland, and northern Virginia.

Foods most desired for donation are high in fiber and low in sugar and sodium, including:

• Canned or dry beans
• Peanut butter
• Canned vegetables (low sodium and no-salt-added varieties)
• Grains including brown and white rice, pasta and macaroni and cheese
• Hot and cold cereals like oatmeal and low-sugar whole grain cereals
• Canned tuna, salmon or chicken
• Canned fruits in light syrup or its own juices
• 100% juice in all sizes, including juice boxes

The food bank does not accept candy, full-calorie sodas, or bakery items such as sheet cakes, cookies or pies. Safety regulations also keep them from accepting prepared foods such as sandwiches, leftover meals from catered events or homemade sauces and jams.
