Women of Global Change is Lighting Up the World: Starting in the Philippines
Women of Global Change are supporting the families in the Dumagat Tribe with solar power in homes. It gives them hope to survive and thrive while their children can read at night and cook under the light in their homes. This solar initiative conserves energy and fights against climate change.
ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Aug. 27, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Women of Global Change (WGC), Philippines Chapter is lighting up the world after their chapter launch in 2021. Solar power is a tremendous benefit to people in the Philippines as they often experience earthquakes, rough storms and over the last year have been locked down because of the pandemic. Women of Global Change has chapters all throughout the world and this chapter is incredibly active as it takes action on multiple service missions, such as, lighting up homes with solar power, cleaning the ocean, teaching women educational and sustainable business practices, and even offering a free computer coding program.
With the help of a Brighter Future For Next Generation, Women of Global Change (WGC) has been able to light up a house for a minimum donation of $150.00. They are currently working with the rural community of the Dumagat people, who live about an hour outside of Manila. They have a 5-year plan and a goal of providing solar power to 1500 homes after already helping over 25 families. The WGC chapter in the Philippines shows great success as they continue to grow and serve the communities around them. At the end of September, they will launch a campaign to dive deep and clean the ocean off the coast. Cleaning the ocean is a big undertaking as garbage is often found ashore, wrapped around animals, and creates a plastic mess off the coast. The volunteers and businesses supporting the initiative will be out cleaning it by hand and maintaining social distancing thanks to the organization of Lovanne Gallo, WGC Chapter President in the Philippines. Some of the collaborators and sponsors of the dive are Sea Diver Ph, Ocean Camp, Project Care, Rotary Circuit Makati, JCI Anilao Batangas, the Local Government Unit of Batangas, 404th A MC, Queen of Hearts Foundation, the Department of Tourism, and Noble Queen of the Universe, as well as, JCI Caloocan Bantayog, Casa Garcia, Blue, Glico, Decathlon, DusitD2 BGC, Sogo Cares, and Malasakit in Humanity (AFP Medical Corps). Furthermore, the chapter just recently offered a free bootcamp to teach over 50 people coding in coordination with Zuitt in August.
The goal of the program was to train women and men to support them in terms of their livelihood options to find jobs easily through a Free Coding Training Program. Women of Global Change is thankful to Zuitt as they helped women learn how to code with the chapter. It was an honor for WGC founder Dame Shellie Hunt to welcome everyone while Zuitt did 2 days of training with participants about foundational coding techniques and more during, CodHer: Women Empowerment through Web Development. WGC hopes to provide more of these opportunities in the Philippines and other areas.
