The renewable energy sector is on the front lines of the fight for the planet. According to the PEW Research Center, women are leading the charge. Statistics show that women are more likely to consider climate change a serious problem, be concerned it will harm them and their families, and believe that major lifestyle changes are needed to solve the problem.

“WRISE members are passionate about educating, mentoring and supporting women who are seeking to enter the renewables industry as well as those who are currently working in this field,” notes WRISE San Diego Chapter Director Kimberlee Centera. “Renewables offer exceptional career opportunities for women, who often possess a sense of mission about preserving the planet.”

Research also reveals that salaries in wind, solar, geothermal and water energy are higher than in many other fields, indicating the lucrative potential for women in this rapidly growing sector.

To advance the education of women in renewables, WRISE awards scholarships that give women the opportunity to attend leading professional conferences to broaden their understanding of the industry and cultivate valuable contacts. WRISE sponsors are critical to the advancement of gender diversity and the development of a dedicated workforce. Investing in WRISE is investing in the future.

The annual WRISE celebration: “Lending a Green Hand: Fundraising for Women in Renewable Energy” is open to industry professionals and the general public. Wines from regional woman vintners and food from San Diego’s Chef of the Year will be served.
