The Surfer and the Sage, Co-Authored by World Champion Surfer Shaun Tomson, and International Best-Selling Poet-Philosopher Noah benShea, Inspires Readers With Guide to Survive and Ride Life's Waves
LOS ANGELES, July 26, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Purpose activist and world champion surfer, Shaun Tomson, will launch a world speaking tour following the August 1 launch of The Surfer and the Sage: A Guide to Survive and Ride Life's Waves (Familius Publishing) on national television. The tour, which will begin in New York City, then continue to London, California, Florida, Australia, and Hilton Head, will highlight the Code Method, a transformational self-development program to activate purpose to improve wellbeing, motivation, and performance.
During the last two years of the pandemic, Tomson has spoken to over 50,000 people at virtual speaking engagements.
At each event he would ask audience members to send a single word describing how they were feeling – the four most common words were stress, anxiety, despair, and disconnection. Tomson calls it a SADD mindset and his book and work with organizations, universities and schools is specifically designed to activate a change in mindset through the Code Method.
His keynote and workshop, Transformation After Disruption: The Code to Ride the Next Wave, is a proven process to activate the power of purpose to ignite and unite teams and change mindset. After experiencing the loss of his teenage son in 2006, Shaun changed his life path. His new mission is to help others around the world find their purpose, their power, and their path towards wellbeing.
The Surfer and the Sage, co-written with Poet-Philosopher Noah benShea, uses surfing as a metaphor to describe 18 "breaking waves" of life and how to ride from darkness through to light – from despair to hope, from powerlessness to empowerment, and from despair to hope.
The Code Method, a simple system to find purpose in everyday life, calls for individuals to write and publicly state 12 life-affirming commitments to follow a new life path.
Tomson describes his path for succeeding as a way to "ride from the dark to the light," a ride imbued with the power derived from purpose – our intentional commitment to achieving aims meaningful to ourselves and the broader world. Tomson states the five elements of purpose can be illustrated by the acronym AIM AT: aspirational, inspirational, moral, authentic, and timeless.
The Surfer and the Sage is not intended as a prescription but as a perspective, rather an inspirational and spiritual guide for the millions who feel disconnected from life, and feel powerless, caught up in an uncontrollable surge.
"Sometimes life's waves wipe you out, and life might seem to sweep you along powerless," says Tomson. "But the choice is always yours to ride back up to the light and this book is a guide on how to do just that. I lost my beautiful 15-year-old son and have bounced back from some dark times, and I passionately want to spread the learnings in this book to others."
Tomson, who has a Master of Science in Leadership from Northeastern University and who created two popular apparel brands, Instinct and Solitude (co-founded with his wife Carla) has also worked with some of the world's best-known organizations - Google, GM, Cisco, PWC, Disney and Gap - to integrate power and purpose for optimal performance. He also works with leading business schools including Kellogg at Northwestern, Marshall at University of Southern California, and Rotterdam School of Management at Erasmus University.
The Code Program focuses on delivering the following results:
- Motivates team members to improve their performance
- Emotionally engages team members with each other
- Activates positive change
- Helps to identify personal goals and higher-level purpose
- Unites the team through an awareness of shared values
- Makes team members feel accountable to reach their stated goals

Tomson is available for interviews and speaking engagements to discuss the Code Method program and his new book, The Surfer and the Sage.
