A downside of having an unplugged wedding is that a guest from out of town or overseas may want images for themselves and from their own perspective. That being said, an experienced photographer will capture the story from a variety of perspectives and better than any guest could. And most photographers will provide their clients with digital files and access to an online gallery for their family and friends to enjoy.
It would be a shame if the couple were not able to enjoy those special moments with their friends because these same friends were too busy trying to record everything on their personal devices. This advice applies especially for the ceremony and reception. The ceremony is a sacred occasion and the reception should be a celebration.
“Unfortunately, I have experienced countless times when a photograph of a beautiful has been affected negatively by guests trying to take photos on their own phones,” stated Ghionis. “The No. 1 instance is probably when the bride walks down the aisle with her father and multiple guess will pull out their phones and also large tablets or ipads, some even stepping into the aisle, to try and take a photo. It can ruin the moment for the bride, often results in the groom not being able to see his bride walk down the aisle because everyone is stepping into it and will eventually date the image.”
The same thing often happens with the kiss during the ceremony. The bride and groom will always enjoy looking back and seeing the smiling faces of their loved ones looking on during important moments like these. But guests often rob the couple of that opportunity when all of their photos feature their loved ones with a phone held up and no expressions on their faces.
“We look back at wedding photographs taken decades ago and the only person holding a camera was the photographer,” concluded Ghionis. “And any photos with guests in them had a certain class to them. Now our images are filled with people constantly holding their devices in front of their faces.”
