World Computer Exchange-Puerto Rico Opens First Refurbishing Club in San Juan School
The WCE-PR Refurbishing Club in the public school Escuela Bilingüe Padre Rufo in the Santurce neighborhood of San Juan.
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, April 8, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- World Computer Exchange-Puerto Rico opened its first Refurbishing Club in the public school Escuela Bilingüe Padre Rufo in the Santurce neighborhood of San Juan. The school has 347 students in grades 7-12.
The nearby Ciudadela real estate development has just rebuilt a former decrepit athletic storage area of the school into a computer lab that will also be used by the school´s new WCE Refurbishing Club.
Ciudadela and the 20/22 Act Foundation shared the building costs and the sponsorship of the WCE Refurbishing Club. The sponsorship provides the school with a flow of non-refurbished computers, tools, parts, educational content, and training. WCE successfully experimented with this project in schools in Illinois, Maryland, and Massachusetts.

Joining her are three WCE Board members. Lisa Dale, Chairman of Seabreeze Management; Robb Rill, Founder of the 20/22 Act Society; and Jeremy Griffiths of Ciudadela. They are joined by Enid Concepción, Executive Director of the 20/22 Act Foundation, and Jose Arreseigor, the head of construction for Ciudadela.
Ciudadela and the Padre Rufo School are looking for volunteers to help with training in computer repair and also in math. If you are interested, please contact PuertoRico(at)WorldComputerExchange(dot)org.
The principal also gave a tour to representatives of CSA Group, Loretta Garcia, Senior Vice President; Javier Garcia; and Jose Luis Menendez. CSA has 150 engineers and other professionals located in Ciudadela, next door to the Padre Rufo School. CSA has agreed to recruit volunteer help to coach students in the WCE Refurbishing Club at Padre Rufo.
Also joining them is WCE Board member Jose Enrique Fernandez, Chairman of the education nonprofit Fundación Kinesis. Kinesis is sponsoring the second WCE Refurbishing Club at the Escuela Josefina León Zayas high school in Jayuya.
Jack O´Donnell, the WCE Coordinator of our Chicago Chapter will soon be visiting Puerto Rico to provide training in the WCE refurbishing process for two days at the Padre Rufo and then two days at Jayuya high school. Employees of CSA and Kinesis will be part of the training.
The 20/22 Act Foundation is also sponsoring WCE refurbished computers loaded with our educational content for additional schools and community centers. Each interested school or center will receive 20 computers. The first 160 computers for this project have been refurbished by WCE´s Chicago chapter and are about to be shipped to the island.
