Overall, the combination of visceral prose and simply mesmerizing imagery makes Sinclair’s work an enjoyable and enriching experience for poetry enthusiasts and deep thinkers alike.

Author Hilary K. Sinclair has published a meditative collection of poetry that provides a glimpse into Sinclair’s unique spiritual journey over 40 years. In “The Yearning Heart,” Sinclair allows her poems to speak for themselves without embellishment and honors the at once private and universal experiences that have the power to draw people together in solidarity and lift their spirits when shared.

“It has taken me ever since my first poem in 1977 until now (2017) to even think about publishing this very small collection of poems,” Sinclair wrote in the preface of her book. “… Certainly when I read them again recently I felt an astonishing kinship with them, as they spoke to me afresh from the great unknown.”

Peppered with calming and colorful photographs, Sinclair adds pops of historical context to some poems, celebrates nature, and meaningfully explores human spirituality and the Christian faith. Ultimately, “The Yearning Heart” provides readers transcendent observations of spiritual intensity, some of which also explore timely political, social, and environmental topics.

“At its core, Sinclair’s poetry explores meaning in an ever-evolving world that has been overrun by materialistic needs and emptiness,” book reviewer Mihir Shah wrote about the book in the U.S. Review of Books. “Spanning four decades, the author’s work examines life from a different lens, one that simultaneously makes one feel alive and happy. An ideal example of this philosophy is found in ‘Falling,’ where audiences can feel the energy imbued within the words as the speaker rappels down a rock, holding the rope still to experience the world from the rarest of vantage points, suspended in midair, in the caress of Mother Nature. Overall, the combination of visceral prose and simply mesmerizing imagery makes Sinclair’s work an enjoyable and enriching experience for poetry enthusiasts and deep thinkers alike.”
