Writers of the Future Winner Marina J. Lostetter of Fayetteville, Arkansas Well on Her Way to Successful Publishing Career
Fayetteville, Arkansas (PRWEB) September 25, 2013 -- Marina J. Lostetter of Fayetteville, a winner in this year’s Writers of the Future Contest and published in L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 29, has taken another significant next step in the attainment of her career as a professional writer. After seeing her winning story, "Master Bellandino's Mask" published in the annual anthology—and so beating out several thousand other contestants— Lostetter is now finding that editors and publishers have become interested in what she is writing.
It was at the Hubbard Achievement Awards ceremony at the famed Wilshire Ebell Theatre earlier this year where Lostetter was introduced to the over 1,200 guests on hand to celebrate this milestone achievement, several of whom were editors themselves looking for new talent. And so being newly discovered, Lostetter has now sold "The Prayer Ladder" to Galaxy's Edge: Issue Four, now appearing in the just released issue of the magazine and has already sold another story that will appear in the same publication early next year. The editor of Galaxy's Edge is also a contest judge and a science fiction legend, Mike Resnick.
Throughout the Contests’ 29-year history, over 650 writers and illustrators have been recognized as winners. "Many, many of the contest winners go on to have successful careers,” says contest judge Tim Powers (On Stranger Tides). "I'm happy to be a part of it."
The Writers of the Future writing contest was initiated by L. Ron Hubbard in 1983 to provide a means for aspiring writers to get that much-needed break. Due to the success of the Writing Contest, the companion Illustrators of the Future Contest was created in 1988.
The intensive mentoring process has proven very successful. Past winners of the Writing Contest have published over 750 novels, 3,500 short stories and winners of the Illustrating Contest have had their art published in more than 500 books and magazines, with 4,500 illustrations, 350 comics and over 1.3 million art prints.
