Hawthorne, NY (PRWEB) January 21, 2014 -- Xand, the East Coast’s premier provider of colocation, cloud, disaster recovery, and managed services, announced today that it has successfully attained United States – European Union Safe Harbor Framework certification.
Xand undertook internal audits to comply with the U.S.-EU Safe Harbor Framework and the U.S.-Swiss Safe Harbor Framework as set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce regarding the collection, use, and retention of personal information from European Union member countries. Xand has certified that it adheres to the Safe Harbor Privacy Principles of notice, choice, onward transfer, security, data integrity, access, and enforcement. The certification allows Xand customers to engage with confidence when conducting business in EU markets.
“Attaining the important Safe Harbor certification is an example of Xand’s strong commitment to privacy, data security, and adherence to international standards for the benefit of all our customers, partners, and prospective clients,” said Xand President and Chief Executive Officer Yatish Mishra. “Xand’s in-house team of security experts worked diligently to comply with the robust set of standards set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the European Union, and we are very pleased to be able to provide an additional layer of security and transparency to our operational environments.”
Xand Chief Security Officer Paul Mazzucco, a certified ethical hacker and industry security expert, led the Safe Harbor certification process. “Securing our customers’ data is our top concern at Xand. Meeting the requirements of a major compliance framework demands dedicated time and resources, and Xand’s ability to gain Safe Harbor certification serves as a testament to the vision of our corporate leadership team and their significant investment in security.”
Xand has further committed to refer unresolved privacy complaints under the U.S.-EU and U.S.-Swiss Safe Harbor Principles to an independent dispute resolution mechanism, the BBB EU SAFE HARBOR, operated by the Council of Better Business Bureaus.
The Safe Harbor provides a number of important benefits to US and EU firms. Benefits for US organizations participating in Safe Harbor include:
• All 27 Member States of the European Union are bound by the European Commission’s finding of adequacy.
• Companies participating in Safe Harbor will be deemed adequate and data flows to those companies will continue;
• Member State requirements for prior approval of data transfers either will be waived or approval will be automatically granted
• Claims brought by European citizens against US companies will be heard in the US subject to limited exceptions
