Louisiana Xarelto Lawsuit Alleges Blood Thinner Caused Fatal Gastrointestinal Hemorrhaging and Internal Bleeding, Bernstein Liebhard LLP Reports
New York, NY (PRWEB) October 06, 2014 -- A new Xarelto lawsuit (http://www.injurybeacon.com/xarelto/lawsuit/) has been filed in Louisiana federal court on behalf of a man who allegedly suffered fatal complications due to his use of the blood thinner, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to the complaint, which was filed on September 25th in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana, the decedent was prescribed Xarelto in February 2013, and continued using the medication until July 25th, 2014, when he experienced gastrointestinal hemorrhaging and internal bleeding. The lawsuit further alleges that those complications led to the man’s death on July 27, 2014. (Case 2:14-cv-02216)
“Our Firm has heard from numerous Xarelto users, as well as their families, who claim the medication caused similar complications. We are monitoring the growing litigation surrounding this blood thinner with great interest,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently offering Xarelto case reviews to people who allegedly suffered serious injuries from the blood thinner, including uncontrollable bleeding, strokes, deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.
Xarelto Litigation
According to Reuters, the manufacturers of Xarelto have acknowledged that the blood thinner is the subject of a number of product liability claims pending in U.S. courts.* Like other cases involving the drug, the Louisiana Xarelto lawsuit alleges that its manufacturers rushed the blood thinner to market, and concealed its risks from doctors and patients. The complaint further alleges that Xarelto was wrongly positioned as a superior alternative than warfarin, noting that warfarin bleeding can be stopped via the administration of Vitamin K. By contrast, there is no approved antidote to reverse internal bleeding that sometimes accompanies its use.
The new Xarelto lawsuit also points out that between its November 2011 approval and June 30, 2012, the medication was implicated in 1,080 complication reports made to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s (FDA) database, including 65 deaths. Eight percent of the reports that involved internal bleeding had fatal outcomes, which was approximately two-fold the risk of a hemorrhage-related death associated with warfarin.
Individuals who were allegedly harmed by Xarelto may be entitled to compensation for their injury-related damages. To learn about filing a Xarelto lawsuit, please visit Bernstein Liebhard LLPs website, or call 800-511-5092 to schedule a free, no obligation case review.
