Yale 7000 Series Exit Devices Now Includes Motorized Electric Latch Retraction to Enable Remote Lock and Unlock

BERLIN, Conn., May 29, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Yale Commercial Solutions, an ASSA ABLOY Group brand, announces the addition of Motorized Electric Latch Retraction (MELR) to its 7000 Series exit devices. MELR allows the exit device's latchbolt to be retracted electrically for momentary or maintained periods of time from a remote location to facilitate push-pull operation of doors. The latch retraction mechanism may be activated by an access control system, remote control device or building automation system and interfaces with central or local fire alarm systems and automatic door operators.
Ideal for healthcare, K-12, higher education and other vertical markets that seek remote lock/unlock capability, the 7000 Series with MELR is easily installed in new building projects and is also available as a retrofit rail kit assembly for updates to existing 7000 Series exit devices in the field.
The exit device bolt remains retracted for as long as the device is energized. Removal of power returns the device to the life safety, self-latching mechanical mode. In addition, because MELR is powered by a standard power supply, it facilitates installation and increases system design flexibility. The MELR was designed to be virtually maintenance free with few moving parts. It consumes 86 percent less power during retraction than solenoid devices.
