PHOENIX, Ariz., Oct. 10, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Ybarra Maldonado Law Group is proud to be named number 16 in the Sun Devil 100 list of fastest growing businesses run by Arizona State University alumni.
The complete list features 100 businesses owned or run by 127 Arizona State University alums. The Sun Devil 100 class of 2020 has combined total revenues of $6.5 billion and they employ more than 12,000 people in 11 states.
"We are extremely proud to have been able to grow our law firm from a small office started out of necessity to one of the most recognized firms in the State of Arizona," said Dr. Angeles J. Maldonado, CEO of the Ybarra Maldonado Law Group. "The Sun Devil 100 award is a testament to the strength and resiliency of the community we come from, while fighting back against injustices in our community we were also able to create a thriving business."
To be considered for the Sun Devil 100, companies must be owned or led by ASU alumni; have been in business for at least three years; have revenues of $250,000-plus in a calendar year; and operate in a manner consistent with the ASU charter.
"Our entire office proudly comes from the community we serve," said Partner Ray A. Ybarra Maldonado. "We hope our receiving this recognition inspires other first-generation college graduates to continue to be focused on serving their community and never compromise on their morals and values."
Ray A. Ybarra founded the Ybarra Maldonado Law Group in 2012 after he left his job at another law office. Ybarra believed that the law firm was abusing, rather than helping its community. "We had no money in our bank account and Dr. Maldonado, our youngest child, and myself were living in a room in my in-laws house. We simply put a post on Facebook that we were starting a law firm and it took off from there."
The Ybarra Maldonado Law Group focuses on serving the Spanish speaking community in Arizona and excels with criminal, immigration, and personal injury cases. They have attained not-guilty verdicts following jury trials in both State and Federal Court. They've also won many cases for their clients at the Arizona Supreme Court and 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Their personal injury victories have resulted in millions of dollars recovered for community members and they have won numerous immigration cases.
Ybarra Maldonado Law Group (YMLG) is firmly grounded in the community and engages in extensive pro bono work. Dr. Angeles J. Maldonado received a Keeping Families Together Champions Award from Fwd.Us for her work against the separation of families, the firm's pro bono work following ICE's largest raid in the country was highlighted by the Arizona Republic, and YMLG is currently involved in the defense of protestors arrested as part of the Black Lives Matter demonstrations.
"For too many years we have seen law firms who take advantage of our community instead of serving our community," said partner YMLG partner Jazmin Alagha. "We are proud to be building a law firm that our community deserves, a place where they can get an honest opinion about their case and find passionate representation from those of us who have immigrated to this country or know what it's like to be a person of color dealing with the justice system."
