Yello Joins HackerRank in Hosting Virtual Career Fair for Technical Talent
The partnership will connect Yello's network of employers to jobseeking developers.
CHICAGO, Aug. 31, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Yello, the leader in early talent acquisition software, today announced it will partner with HackerRank, the developer skills company, to host a Virtual Career Fair connecting developers with the world's leading technology companies. The partnership will allow Yello's network of enterprise companies to participate in the career fair alongside major technology brands already signed on, including: Twilio, Moody's Analytics, Riot Games, Duolingo, Fortinet and BNY Mellon.
The fair will be held in a virtual setting from September 21 - 23, 2020 to align with company recruiting cycles for the summer of 2021. Gayle Laakmann McDowell, Author of Cracking the Coding Interview will join HackerRank's Co-Founder and CEO, Vivek Ravisankar for a fireside chat on the best practices for interviewing for technical roles. The event will also feature a day focused on students and recent graduates from more than 100 HBCUs, with dedicated programming on career tools and entrepreneurship from Black business leaders.
"We are thrilled to be partnering with HackerRank for this innovative event," said Jason Weingarten, Co-Founder and CEO of Yello. "Even though in-person career fairs and hiring events have been paused, the companies we work with are still looking for top talent, especially in STEM fields. Virtual events like this help our customers connect with those candidates and continue making hires — while keeping everyone safe."
As universities adopt virtual learning models to prevent the spread of COVID-19, traditional in-person career fairs have been cancelled. According to HackerRank, more than 400,000 students rely on these in-person events for internship and job placements each year. Even as companies turn to virtual recruiting methods to hire students and recent graduates, it can be difficult for recruiters to reach candidates from diverse backgrounds or in-demand STEM majors outside of an event setting.
The companies hope that remote hiring — and virtual career fair style events like this — can not only help to reverse some of the economic fallout from COVID-19, but also equal the playing field for underrepresented students by connecting recruiters with candidates outside of the schools and organizations they typically partner with for recruiting. Companies participating in the Virtual Career Fair will have the opportunity to reach exponentially more students from every university, college, vocational program and bootcamp, all at once.
"As the leader in campus recruiting, Yello was an obvious choice to partner on this event," said Vivek Ravisankar, Co-Founder and CEO of HackerRank. "We're excited to connect our student developer community to career opportunities within Yello's network of enterprise companies."
One difference students might notice between the Virtual Career Fair and traditional career fairs is a greater emphasis on hard skills, rather than just a resume. Before the event, students can practice skills and complete assessments in the HackerRank Community, creating a personal profile is to showcase certifications and scores for assessments they've taken. Once their profile is set up, they can access the company exhibitor page to view attending companies and express interest based on their full-time or internship hiring needs. If a student is interested in a company, they can easily apply with the click of a button and the Virtual Career Fair will facilitate an introduction if there is mutual interest.
Registration for interested students is now open as HackerRank continues to add more sponsor companies over the coming months. For more information about the Virtual Career Fair, visit the registration page: https://www.hackerrank.com/career-fair/fall2020.
