Yourwellness Magazine Follows Up New Gout Guidelines
London, UK (PRWEB UK) 29 August 2013 -- An international panel of rheumatologists have issued new gout guidelines aimed at improving patient care across the globe, it was announced on August 9th. The panel of experts from 14 countries came up with ten key recommendations, which emphasise diagnosis, screening for comorbidities, the treatment of chronic and acute forms of the disease, lifestyle interventions and treatment choices. Co-author Mihir Wechalekar, a rheumatologist from the Royal Adelaide Hospital, commented, “Despite the publication of several gout guidelines over the past few years, suboptimal treatment of gout is not uncommon. Yourwellness Magazine noted that while it used to be believed that RA sufferers couldn’t also be afflicted by gout, now it is known that gouty symptoms are just hidden by their arthritis. Yourwellness Magazine explained that being overweight aggravates both of these conditions because individuals are putting much more strain on joints which are already inflamed. This strain eventually breaks down the cushioning between joints, called cartilage. Without cartilage symptoms of both rheumatoid arthritis and gout can get a lot worse.
